ABOUT THE POSITION
The Fleet Assistant supports the Court’s vehicle operations by ensuring that all fleet vehicles are properly maintained, compliant, and ready for use. This role performs a wide range of hands-on tasks, including scheduling maintenance, inspecting vehicles, coordinating repairs, and assisting with regulatory compliance documentation. The Fleet Assistant also provides logistical support for the Court’s Mobile Civic Engagement Team, helping transport and set up outreach vehicles and equipment at community events.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and monitor the Court’s vehicle fleet, ensuring all vehicles are properly inspected, serviced, fueled, and compliant with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate vehicle logistics, including scheduling maintenance and repairs, transporting vehicles to service vendors, and maintaining detailed fleet usage and maintenance records.
- Tow, transport, and operate vehicles with attached trailers up to 10,000 lbs GVWR; perform hitching/unhitching, load securing, safety inspections, and positioning of vehicles and trailers.
- Support the Court’s Mobile Civic Engagement Team by transporting, positioning, and securing outreach vehicles and trailers at community events, and assisting with equipment setup and breakdown.
- Assist with fleet documentation and compliance, preparing and submitting inspection reports, acquisition and disposal paperwork, and updating data in the Fleet Management System.
- Install and maintain vehicle equipment, such as decals, GPS devices, safety kits, and other specialized tools to ensure readiness and consistency across the fleet.
- Ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness of all Court vehicles and related equipment, reporting issues promptly and following established safety protocols.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all the following requirements at the time of application:
Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent -AND- six (6) months of technical experience in the inspection or maintenance of fleet vehicles -AND- a valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio (e.g., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, or logistics coordination within a government or large organization.
- Familiarity with vehicle inspection, compliance procedures, and basic mechanical systems (e.g., brakes, tires, electrical components).
- Ability to safely tow, position, and secure trailers or outreach vehicles, including knowledge of proper weight distribution and safety standards.
- Proficiency in using Fleet Management Systems, GPS tracking software, and Microsoft Office 365 applications for data entry and reporting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and work independently.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and providing excellent support to internal departments and public-facing community engagement efforts.
