Science 284 

This is a first seminar for Post-Baccalaureate students preparing for graduate-level health professions, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant, etc. Topics include admissions process, academic preparation, health professional roles, social determinants of health. Students create a personal plan.


Science 285

Second of two-part seminar for Post-Baccalaureate students preparing for graduate-level health professions, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistant, etc. Focus: preparing for admissions process, exposure to diverse aspects of medicine, professionalism, and strengthening qualifications. Prerequisite: SCI 284; or bachelor's degree and instructor permission.


Each are 1 credit, zoom online one evening per week plus online asynchronous work.

Position Duties

Required Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience in teaching in a higher education environment or experience teaching adults

Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Office programs
  • Learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technology
  • Online teaching
  • Application processes for graduate health schools and related content as listed in the class descriptions 

Skill in:
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Post-Baccalaureate Services for the Health Professions (courses are housed in “SCIENCE”)
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Effective teaching practices, including how to structure and support collaborative learning.
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Contributing to equity and inclusion by fostering a climate of multicultural appreciation and awareness
  • Incorporating a variety of creative teaching methods to address different learning styles
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Work Environment
 The College is currently in mixed (both in-person and online) operations, with the option for some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.
 
 Terms of Employment & Salary

  • This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment.  
  • Salary placement is determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with related degrees. 
  • Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
