The Research Scientist will lead or contribute to independent and collaborative research within the Department of Physics. The role involves designing and executing research projects, analyzing results, and contributing to the scientific mission of the department through publication, mentorship, and active participation in collaborative research activities.

Minimum Education Required:

Doctoral degree in Physics or a closely related field (e.g., Astronomy).

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned a doctoral degree in a relevant field and prior research experience.
  • Demonstrated productivity beyond that of a postdoctoral fellow.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications, presentations to professional societies, and/or contributions to inventions, designs, or techniques of material significance.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent research.
  • Familiarity with proposal writing and securing research funding.
  • Computational Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in executing simulations using three-dimensional magneto-convection codes (e.g., MURaM).
  • Theoretical Foundation: A strong theoretical background in plasma physics, magnetohydrodynamics, and high-energy physics, with a specialization in solar disk gamma-ray emission.
  • Scientific Communication: A proven track record of disseminating research through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at professional conferences.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring students or junior researchers.
