POSITION: Interventionist
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal/Deputy Superintendent of Instruction
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE
SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy
JOB SUMMARY: The Interventionist is a fully certified, experienced elementary teacher who will bring a level of skill and specialization in targeted instruction and intervention strategies that are effective in helping students close learning gaps. More specifically, the position provides intensive intervention daily for reading and math weaknesses and opportunities for after-school intervention.
MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Through data analysis, select students for tiered instruction and schedule services.
- Implement scientifically-based research reading and mathematics practices to meet the needs of students as determined by formative and summative assessments.
- Collaborate with other professionals to analyze student data and plan response to intervention.
- Review scientifically-based reading and mathematics research and communicate significant information to appropriate personnel, children, and families.
- Assist and/or provide professional development programs and offer family/parent involvement sessions and activities.
- Discuss students’ performances, needs, and solutions with parents, administrators, teachers, students, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Provide specialized, intensive after-school support
- Maintain strict confidentiality
- Perform other related tasks as assigned

- Professional Teaching Certificate
- Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in an educational field
- Have at least five (5) years of successful experience in elementary teacher
- Have knowledge of West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards
- Ability to use and understand data in making decisions and supporting students
- Understand dyslexia and dyscalculia
- Strong skill set the science of reading and numeracy
- Have knowledge of research-based assessments
- Proficiency in technology
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others effectively and work as part of a team.
- Must be reliable with excellent attendance
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Balanced Literacy and Conceptual Mathematics

Interventionists often encounter students struggling with emotional challenges, behavioral issues, or learning difficulties. They need to be able to remain calm and composed even when dealing with challenging situations. The demands of the job can be high, the position requires the individual to understand how to manage stress.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).
