We are looking for a Health Unit Clerk to join our collaborative team at Memorial Health!
What You'll Do
Administrative:
- Maintains confidentiality at all times to protect patient’s privacy and maintains Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations
- Enters and retrieves data and related information from electronic medical record.
- Follows established protocol for admits, discharges, and transfer. Coordinates transportation as needed.
- Assembles files and retrieves records from cabinets and drawers; maintains proper location of all information to ensure accessibility to nursing staff, physicians, ancillary services, volunteers, patients, and visitors; maintains neat and orderly nurse’s station
- Verifies accuracy of information to ensure appropriate patient care decisions
- Reviews and retrieves advance directives for charts as indicated
- Assists with ordering and maintaining supply of desk materials
Interpersonal:
- Communicates and assists physicians as indicated
- Maintains appropriated written, verbal, and telephone communications
- All interactions are conducted in a professional manner
- Resolves conflict through one-on-one negotiation or with assistance of Director or their designee
- Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept
- Participates in unit projects
- Attends committees as assigned, and attends monthly staff meetings
- Greets and directs visitors; ensures visitors are made to feel welcome and comfortable
Clinical Assistance:
- Supports the licensed nurses by assuming responsibility for indirect patient care, such as assisting with and maintenance of a safe and clean environment. In an effort to provide optimum patient outcome and efficiencies to flow; answers call light system and relays patient needs to appropriate staff, transports specimens to lab, cleans rooms, stocks linen cabinets, stocks supply cabinets.
Education:
- Attends all mandatory education and in-services. 80% of staff meeting attendance is required at all times.
- Completes initial orientation and competencies per Human Resources established time guidelines
- Completes annual competencies and unit specific competencies per Human Resources established time guidelines
- Completes mandatory health requirements (i.e., annual TB testing, Hepatitis-B immunization, annual physicals as indicated etc.)
- Maintains continuous certification in American Heart Association’s BLS
Emergencies:
- Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours. (i.e, internal and external disasters).
- Exhibits behaviors reflective of Memorial’s core values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Attends all mandatory education and in-services (i.e., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); completes mandatory health requirements.
- Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Completion of high school education with coursework in secretarial skills and medical terminology or equivalent
