This position is accountable for performing routine Quality Testing of Gas Producers, Power Turbines, and Reduction Gearboxes to ensure conformance to Solar and/or customer specifications.

This is a 2nd Shift Position

  • Resolve and troubleshoot routine to complex test facility and package issues.

  • Acquire and review performance and vibration data required for engine acceptance.

  • Accurately record and document test events and incidents in the Automated Testlog.

  • Assist Metrology and Maintenance during planned calibration or maintenance activities.

  • Promote and demonstrate leadership and support of all safety, and lean initiatives.

  • Develop and mentor junior level Test Technicians. Clearly demonstrate leadership in all Test activities.

  • Serve as technical expert, ability to independently resolve and develop solutions for highly complex issues.

  • Closely interact with Test Engineering to incorporate improved operating practices and procedures.  


Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform installation and removal of gas turbines and accessories. 

  • Perform green run and final performance acceptance test of gas turbines.

  • Observe, record, and review test data.

  • Interpret test results and utilize results to optimize and resolve engine issues or discrepancies.

  • Document test activities and incidents in Automated Testlog.

  • Resolve routine and complex skid or package issues.

  • Setup and use of all computerized data acquisition systems.

  • Assist Test and Product Engineering in the resolution of test discrepancies.

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of test facilities.

  • Support and follow all safety and lean initiatives and requirements.

  • Mentor, support and direct junior level Test Technicians.

  • Utilize PLC systems to troubleshoot and help resolve test facility or engine issues.

  • Assist Test Engineers and independently develop new test practices and procedures.

  • Lead PDCA improvement initiatives in the areas of safety, 5S, or quality. 

  • May represent test on cross-functional teams or activities.

Skills and requirements:

  • Requires excellent mechanical skills and the ability to operate shop equipment, bench tools, hand tools, and inspection and test equipment (micrometers, multimeters, and dial indicators).

  • Knowledgeable in the use and application of electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.

  • Expert knowledge with the operating principals of gas turbines and most mechanical and electrical equipment. Ability to utilize and understand PLC logic and its operating functions.

  • Understand operational parameters and their scientific meaning,  

  • Ability to read Engineering drawings and schematics.

  • Contacts are typically with Test Technicians, other Metrology Technicians, and Test/Product Engineers.

  • Provides guidance to junior Test Technicians

  • Works under the general direction of the Test Manager, Test Coordinator or Test Engineer. Work is only seldom reviewed for completeness and accuracy.

  • Typically seven (7) to ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in a gas turbine environment.

Summary Pay Range:

$65,454.00 - $98,182.00
