About the Department
The Ted Lechner Youth Services Center provides pre-trial detention for youth who have been incarcerated in a restrictive housing environment, separated by temporary housing for youth in a non-restrictive shelter care environment. Performs routine supervisory work in the safekeeping of youth who have been placed in a secure detention and shelter care by enforcing rules, maintaining order, and monitoring activities.
Position Duties
- Supervision of youth in a restrictive detention environment and shelter care facility;
- Conduct intake interviews of youth and document youth behaviors and emotional status;
- Provides basic care and supervision to youth;
- Monitors and assesses the behavioral and emotional characteristics of referred youth and provides additional supervision to prevent self-harm as needed;
- Regularly communicates orally, and in writing, any changes to youth, to all members of the youth care facility.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience/Training:
- Graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; or
- Associate degree in Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or closely related field; and two (2) years’ experience working with youth in crisis.
- A combination of education, training, and experience totaling four (4) years in a closely related field will be considered.
- Valid Montana driver’s license;
- CPR certification (within 6 months);
- CPI certification (within 6 months).
