Who We Are  

Messiah Lifeways is a non-profit organization located in Mechanicsburg, PA, that provides a network of services for adults, 55 and better living in South Central PA. Our roots trace back to 1896, when the Brethren in Christ Church founded Messiah Home in Harrisburg, PA, to serve older adults with Christ-like love.  

Who You Are  

The Spiritual Care Specialist is charged with promoting spiritual wellness and development in our Enhanced Living department. The Spiritual Care Specialist is also tasked with establishing regular visitation patterns with residents and responds to pastoral needs.  

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have knowledge of/ experience in the following:  

• Efficient Time Management: Managing meetings with multiple families, team members, and clients in a timely manner 

• Strong Collaboration/ Communication Skills: Works well in communicating and partnering with other pastors, team members, residents, and families to provide holistic care 

• Compassionate Spiritual Leadership: Provides empathetic, resident-centered spiritual care through visits, worship, and programming, while modeling personal spiritual wellness and maintaining professional boundaries 

What You’ll Do  

• Contribute actively to the advancement of the mission and goals of the Pastoral Ministries department  

• Exemplify spiritual wellness by committing to regular practices and rhythms of self-care  

• Support and share responsibilities for Pastoral Ministries programming as directed  

• Promote Pastoral Ministries departmental initiatives in Enhanced Living neighborhoods  

• Conduct pastoral visits and document pastoral assessments, interventions, and outcomes     

• Plan for and coordinate spiritual life activities and programming in assigned Enhanced Living neighborhoods  

Potential Career Growth Track: Clinical Chaplin, Community Life Pastor  

What Else You’ll Need  

• Seminary or ministry-related undergraduate degree, approved denominational ministry training, and/or at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) (required) 

• Experience with older adult ministry (preferred, but not required), or a willingness to pursue continuing education in this area
