You’ll guide and empower the Protection & Control team, shaping policies across Protection, SCADA, Operational Communications, and System Monitoring. Your expertise will influence investment decisions and support the introduction of cutting-edge technologies across the network. With a strong focus on safety, customer service, and operational excellence, you’ll lead your team through complex challenges—coaching, motivating, and delivering results that keep SPD at the forefront of innovation and reliability.

What you will be doing?

Step into a dynamic leadership role where your voice, vision, and expertise will shape the future of energy distribution. As part of the SPD Technical Support team, you’ll be at the centre of collaboration—communicating across departments, mentoring apprentices, and driving the development of our distribution price control. You’ll lead the charge in building a strong safety culture, managing operational tasks with precision, and steering business change to deliver high performance and service excellence.

You’ll coach and empower the Protection & Control team, ensuring they hit key targets while developing robust training plans to future-proof our workforce. With a sharp eye for system optimisation, you’ll work closely with the OCC to maximise access opportunities and enhance network performance. Your decisions will be thoughtful and informed, balancing autonomy with collaboration. And as we pioneer the Digital Substations Project, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing cutting-edge technologies to life at both Station Bus and Process Bus levels.

What you will bring

We’re looking for a seasoned professional with deep operational experience in Distribution Protection and SCADA to join our team in a high-impact role. You’ll have hands-on experience and a strong grasp of Energy Networks policies, health and safety legislation, and network development procedures, this is your opportunity to make a real difference.

In this role, you’ll apply your advanced knowledge of network and business data systems, commercial and regulatory frameworks, and contract/SLA management to drive performance and innovation. Your developed customer service skills, strategic thinking, and ability to solve complex challenges will be

key to leading successful outcomes. You’ll also bring strong communication, negotiation, and people management skills to guide teams and influence stakeholders across the business.

Whether you hold an engineering degree working toward Chartered status or bring significant industry experience, we value your technical insight and leadership. A valid driving licence and IT systems appreciation are essential, as you’ll be working across multiple sites and platforms.
