This position is limited term grant funded (LTGF). Positions designated as limited-term grant-funded are temporary in nature and the employment period is contingent upon the grant's continued funding availability.

The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a temporary School and Community Engagement Advocate, (Community Developer 1G) grade G18 position, in the Office of Strategic Partnership and Community Solutions Division.


About the Position

The contractor shall perform the services set forth below under the general direction and supervision of the Prince George’s County Department of Social Service, Office of Strategic Partnerships and Community Solutions. The School and Community Engagement Advocates perform crisis intervention, assessments, case management, home visitations and case follow-up for students and families. This role will provide direct services through managing or facilitating group workshops, referrals and community organizing within Prince George’s County MD. These services will focus on school engagement, developing parents as leaders, and professional development for educators and community stakeholders designed to promote a stable supportive community of resources that foster growth and opportunity.  

About the Agency

The Prince George’s County Department of Social Services is in the business of providing opportunities for residents of the County to become independent, responsible and stable members of the community. We do this by providing intervention services that strengthen families, protect children and vulnerable adults, encourage self-sufficiency and promote personal responsibility. We assist our customers through such programs as Temporary Cash Assistance, Food Supplement Program, Medical Assistance, Emergency Assistance, and Foster Care and Adoption Service.

Position Duties

  • Knowledgeable about PGCDSS’ eligibility requirements for specific divisions related to crisis intervention services, including but not limited to: emergency housing, energy assistance, family preservation, food supplement assistance, temporary cash assistance, medical insurance assistance, etc.
  • Case management.
  • Small group instruction.
  • Work in collaboration with identified school-based partners, school administration, and other stakeholders to communicate program goals and coordinate efforts.
  • Conduct regular community outreach to identify partners, families in need, and funding opportunities.
  • Provide community and school-based workshops, trainings and professional development based on need.
  • Provide direction to assigned students on specific cases and troubleshoot, which may include attending home visits to provide coaching as needed.
  • Promote and communicate training and technical assistance opportunities at assigned sites.
  • Attend steering committee meetings at assigned schools and provide support for successful outcomes.
  • Utilize appropriate technology and software applications to manage tasks, monitor staff performance, etc.
  • Analyze weekly, monthly and quarterly data for trends and impact, and develop a plan for action.
  • Support reporting of program data to key stakeholders by adhering to requests in a timely manner.
  • Attend professional development training to build capacity and understanding of PGCPS’ community school framework, national best practices related to case management and strategies for student/family success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the School and Community Engagement Managers and/ or Senior Program Manager or Assistant Senior Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with major course work in business or public administration, social service, sociology, psychology, or other fields.
  • Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals. 
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
