After-School Tutor After School Tutor Job Title: After-School Tutor Reports to: Site Lead/Site Director Wage: $25/hour Tutors are responsible for leading small/large group lessons that cater to the needs and goals of their students. Responsibilities: Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom Teaching skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills, and approaches to answering test questions Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics Providing students with positive and constructive feedback Offering feedback on progress to students’ parents and teachers where appropriate Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds Instructing students both in person and over video chat Diagnosing student needs through active listening techniques and questioning strategies Recognizing different learning styles and student preferences Designing differentiated learning goals Staying up to date with the school curriculum Use data to differentiate instruction Keep your student data electronically and share it with the Site Director weekly Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for students’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences Designs and facilitates differentiated and personalized learning goals and activities that follow a coherent sequence, are aligned to instructional goals, and engage students in high-level cognitive activity. Other duties as assigned Tutor Qualifications/Skills: Emotional maturity and stability Patient, flexible, positive, consistent, dependable, and cooperative with a sense of humor Ability to take supervision and correction constructively Ability to positively supervise students Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required Bachelor’s degree in Education or subject-matter field preferred 24-48 College Units or AS or AA Degree Recent teaching experience is a plus Current CPR and First Aid certification
