About the Department

NOTE: This is NOT a Remote Position

  • The Data Analyst has primary responsibility for managing, retrieving, analyzing, and ensuring the integrity of data for the Office of Planning and Research, which is responsible for the planning, assessment, evaluation, and research functions of the College. The Data Analyst serves as the College’s Data Coordinator and IPEDS keyholder, assuming responsibility for monitoring and submitting reports to internal and external stakeholders.

Position Duties

The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:  
  • Queries, retrieves, and summarizes data from specialized databases and information systems—including Clearinghouse, Colleague, and Informer—to support the College’s assessment, evaluation, planning, and reporting functions.
  • Serves as the College’s Data Coordinator and IPEDS keyholder, which includes monitoring report submissions and assisting with federal, state, and institutional reports.
  • Reviews data to ensure integrity in internal databases and reports to and from the North Carolina Community College System Office.  
  • Directs and administers the implementation and maintenance of College’s data management system (Informer 5), to include development of faculty and staff trainings.  
  • Leads the College’s Campus-Wide Outcomes review, editing, data analysis, and annual reporting.
  • Manages electronic processes for data architecture, information analysis and processing, report generation, and improved data management. 
  • Works with faculty and staff to gather and analyze data for program and/or department evaluation.  
  • Acquires, organizes, and updates data for Planning and Research documents, such as enrollment reports, Campus-Wide Outcomes, and the College Strategic Plan of Operations.
  • Manages the College’s data request ticketing system.
  • Gathers data, analyzes, and prepares reports for campus-wide ad hoc requests.  
  • Leads the College’s campus-wide Data Quality Committee, which oversees campus-wide projects and initiatives related to improving data integrity, identifying institutional data needs, providing support for data understanding/analysis.   
  • Maintains the confidentiality and security of all institutional and system data.
Additional Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and/or necessary by [President | Provost | EVP | Dean | Department Chair/Supervisor].

  • Serve on campus-wide committees as assigned, requested, and/or needed.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, SAS (or alternate statistical analysis software), and databases.
  • Ability to gather, interpret, and prepare data reports in a visually-appealing and easy-to-understand formats.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work collegially with faculty and staff.  
  • Self-directed management of multiple tasks simultaneously with the drive to meet deadlines.
  • Team player who thrives working in a team environment.
PREFERENCES: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in database management, computer programming, decision sciences, statistics, or a related field.
  • One to two years of computer operations experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  
  • Experience with Colleague, Informer, and the National Student Clearinghouse.
Familiarity with North Carolina community colleges and trends in higher education.
