About the role
The Certification Systems Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects of the deliverables, meetings, issues, and actions of the Certification Cross Product Team (CPT). In addition, the Certification Systems Engineer will support the Certification CPT Lead with Engineering Changes, overall technical management, requirements derivation, reporting, and business rhythm activities associated with this effort.

What you bring to the role
- Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in software, hardware, systems, mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a systems engineering environment
- Developing the basis of certification and establishing compliance strategies for the combat systems
- Communicating with IPT and CPT engineering teams to identify scope of work, schedule, design details, risks, and other pertinent factors impacting certification
- Ability to set priorities and efficiently resolve problems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team
- Good organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to plan, adapt and thrive in a dynamic schedule-driven environment.
- Experience with systems engineering processes including requirements analysis; derivation and traceability management; system architecture development; configuration management; requirements verification; hardware and software engineering development processes
- Performing Systems Engineering activities including, requirements analysis, derivation and traceability management, system architecture development, systems validation and verification
- Knowledge in requirements management using Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS)™ (IBM Rational)
- Participating in the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and cost and schedule impact assessments
- Developing tools, as necessary, to track deliverables, testing and compliance findings to assure on-time completion of certification tasks
- Defining and tracking of Technical Performance Metrics (TPMs)
- The ability to read, review, and develop technical schematics, engineering specifications, and engineering drawings
- Reviewing system designs, architecture, use cases, block diagrams, cable diagrams, equipment arrangements in order to validate certification system requirements are satisfied and communicate necessary design changes to the design team
- Identifying potential certification risks and issues, and communicating related information to the impacted engineering disciplines
- Developing, reviewing, and approving certification-related documents, including System Specific Certification Plans, Technical White papers, Engineering Safety Justification Reports, Deviations and Waivers, Test Plans and Reports
- Developing and reviewing certification documentation to substantiate compliance to applicable rules and regulations
- Reviewing Sub-Contractor technical documentation reviews in support of ship certification deliverables
- Deriving regulatory and Class Society requirements in a way that clearly breaks down the regulations and guidance material for various integrated product engineering teams
- Working with IPT and CPT engineering teams to develop relevant engineering specifications, system designs and system certification plans, to support Lloyd’s Register Design Appraisal and Naval Ship Safety Certification (NSSC)
- Interfacing with Naval Certification Authorities and the Lloyd’s Register Class Society as required
Additional skills desired for the role
- Previous engineering or certification experience in Naval or Aerospace certification domain
- Experience with Naval Combat Systems
- Experience with Naval Platform Systems
- Knowledge of design standards and verification methods for naval combat systems and equipment
- Detailed knowledge of the application Lloyd’s Naval Ship Rules and Commercial Ship Rules, the ANEP 77 Naval Ship Code, and International Maritime Organization Regulations in a new build ship program
