Other Conditions: To begin Spring 2026, tenure track position, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Renewal of appointment contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of funds, and program needs. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on program needs.  
 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 

  • In an ACEN accredited nursing program, and under general supervision, to teach medical/surgical nursing courses with an additional specialty area, such as geriatrics, pediatrics, OB, and/or mental health. 
  • Supervise student clinical experiences in two specialty areas in an integrated curriculum. 
  • Conduct seminars at the community college level in an integrated curriculum. 
  • Collect data. 
  • Maintain office hours as determined by teaching schedule. 
  • Counsel students. 
  • Identify students' learning needs, including needs of underprepared students, and implement constructive teaching strategies. 
  • Prepare and revise learning outcomes and syllabi. 
  • Plan, organize, and carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments independently. 
  • Work collaboratively with other faculty and staff. 
  • Work under the guidance of colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs, and advise students for their success in the program. 
  • Prepare, develop, revise, and implement course outlines, student learning outcomes, instructional materials, and syllabi.
  • Continually assess course and program student learning objectives, and prepare regular reports on assessment activities. 
  • Assist with and participate in campus related activities and in-service training. 
  • Perform related duties as assigned including teaching nursing course and campus wellness center services. Day, evening, early morning, weekend, outreach, and/or distance education classes or allied health courses may be assigned as part of regular workload. 
  • Assist with further development, recruitment, promotion, and coordination of program. 
  • Make and maintain contacts within the community to assess current training needs. 
  • Participate in student recruitment activities. 
  • Maintain subject matter currency and be willing to continually update courses to keep up with college and student needs. 
  • Participate in faculty/administrative committees, community service, and in-service training.
  • Other duties as assigned or directed

    Minimum Qualifications 
  • Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university and at least one (1) year of hospital experience in one of the areas (medical/surgical, psychiatric nursing and another specialty) of teaching responsibility. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five years of date of application. 
  • RN eligible for Hawai'i State License. License required by effective date of employment.

Minimum qualifications to be considered on an acting basis are:  Bachelor's in Nursing and at least three years of hospital experience in one of the areas of teaching responsibility. Preferably this experience will have been gained within the last five years of date of application. Registered nurse eligible for Hawai'i State License. License required by effective date of employment.
 
Desirable Qualifications 

  • Successful teaching experience in a community college nursing program or equivalent as substantiated by student, peer, and administrative assessments. 
  • At least one year of hospital experience in two of the areas (medical/surgical, psychiatric nursing and another specialty) of teaching responsibility 
  • Nurse Practitioner with Clinical currency in area of expertise. 
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with community college students. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multi-ethnic, multicultural population. 
  • Ability to function autonomously and as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to employ writing assignments and critical thinking skill development as part of students' classroom learning activities. 
  • Willingness to instruct via the various technological media available to the college including online courses. 
  • Model the role of the professional nurse.
