The City of Pearland, TX- Police Department is seeking to hire a full-time Jailer to assist with the day-to-day operations of our Police department. Are your results-oriented? Could you excel in a fast-paced environment? If so, you may be perfect for this position.

The Jailer earns a competitive salary of $20.79-21.63/ per hour based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A JAILER

Job Summary

Primary function of this job is to provide and maintain care and custody of prisoners that are being held in the City Jail. Responsibilities include booking, gathering accurate information, and completing paperwork. Gathers fingerprints and photographs, escorts prisoners before judge, provides information, files arrest records into the computer and ensures that files are accurately kept on prisoners. Provides a support system for police officers and is a liaison between the courts, the Pearland Police Department and all other appropriate agencies.

The successful candidate for this position should have experience in booking and releasing inmates from a detention facility and must be able to write concise and accurate reports.

Hours: 12-hour shifts - 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.


Essential Functions:

Regular and timely attendance at work. Book prisoner in jail after searching for weapons, valuables, or drugs, and complete and distribute notices to Municipal Court, Justice of the Peace, and District Attorney's office. Perform prisoner check every thirty minutes; complete jail logs indicating activity with each prisoner. Enter arrest information into the computer system to create information accessibility department wide and to comply with State monitoring. Prepare paperwork for arraignment before the Judge. Prepare arrest records identifying prisoner and charge assigned. Respond to information requests from family, bonding companies, and other agencies in reference to prisoners. Serves meals to prisoner and provides or obtains medical aid if needed. Conduct prisoner releases to include release of inmate property and sending information to other agencies, such as Brazoria County. Perform miscellaneous jail duties such as filing, making arrest packets, processing inmate photographs, purchase food for prisoners, and take dirty laundry out for cleaning. Serves as "essential personnel" and is required to remain available for immediate call-in due to any natural or manmade disaster, or any other event the Police Chief or City Manager deem necessary. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Requires minimum one year closely related experience. Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License, required.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Jailer Certification for Municipal Government preferred, or the ability to acquire within one (1) year from hire date.

Jailer Certification by TCOLE preferred.

Fingerprint Classification School preferred.

Intoxilyzer Operators Certification preferred.
