NOTICE OF POSITION
POSITION:
The Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Gregory Mott, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of:
CRISIS INTERVENTION WORKER*
ANTICIPATED VACANCY
POUGHKEEPSIE CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EITHER: - Completion of sixty (6) credit hours of college study in social and/or behavioral sciences; OR
- Two years direct experience with intellectually and developmentally disabled or at-risk adolescents; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience is indicated in (A) and (B) above.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This work involves responsibility for crisis intervention in an education program for intellectually and developmentally disabled or at-risk adolescents. This position is responsible for the supervision of students in crisis and for providing immediate intervention when incidents occur. Utilizing data collection and assessment strategies, this position provides input to the Treatment Teams to determine patterns and causes of deviant behavior. Work is performed under the instruction and supervision of professional staff. Supervision of the work of others is not normally a responsibility of employees in this class.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: - Manages disruptive, assaultive and out-of-control behaviors and provides physical intervention when required;
- Assists in the classroom when crisis situations require aid and must be “on call” and in proximity to potential crisis situations;
- Refers students to supervisor or social worker as needed for counseling or discipline;
- Monitors all major daily behavioral incidents to resolution and provides input to treatment team;
- Compiles detailed notes and charts to provide input to treatment team and to assess patterns of deviant behavior;
- Assists in the coordination of In-School Suspension;
- Attends individual classroom Treatment Team Meetings and provides input;
- Attends in-service training programs as required to keep abreast of crisis intervention management techniques;
- Does related work as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the characteristics, problems, and needs of intellectually and developmentally disabled or at-risk adolescents; good knowledge of crisis intervention techniques; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; good observation; tact; emotional maturity; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
APPOINTMENT:
Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, experience, certifications, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews shall be conducted where appropriate. *This position will receive a provisional appointment. A permanent appointment is contingent upon civil service exam results.
SALARY:
$48,248 - $51,392, commensurate with experience
