District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.

 

Department Primary Purpose:                        To provide students with appropriate learning activities and                                                                         experiences designed to help them fulfill of their                                                                                          potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological                                                                               growth and maturation which will enable them to                                                                                       develop competencies and skills to function successfully in                                                                         society.

Qualifications:                                              

Education/Certification:                                Valid Texas teaching certificate with required                                                                                              endorsements for subject and level assigned in

                                                                        (a)  Family and Consumer Science, Composite, or (b)                                                                                  Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Sciences –offered by                                                                                 (AAFCS)American Assoc. of Family and Consumer                                                                                    Sciences, (c) Human Development and Family Studies,

                                                                        or

                                                                        (d) Trade & Industrial Education Teacher Certification

                                                                        Option I

                                                                        Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from accredited                                                                                         university and 3 years full time wage earning experience in                                                                         one or more approved occupations for which instruction is                                                                         offered,                                     

 

                                                                       

 

Experience/Knowledge Be knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements.  Additionally, be knowledgeable in the ability to make industry connections promoting service learning, cooperative education, and work base learning opportunities for the students; such as provide experiences for the students in catering and hosting events, knowledge of food preparation and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen, in addition knowledge of culinary facilities, safety guidelines, supplies and equipment.

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

 

  1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and the times designated.

 

  1. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.

 

  1. Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor within the effective schools research and framework for school excellence.

 

  1. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.

 

  1. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

 

  1. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

 

  1. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.

 

  1. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation to accomplish instructional goals and objectives.

 

  1. Assist in formulating, upholding, and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.
  2. Make provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.

 

  1. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.

 

  1. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.

 

  1. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

  1. Establish and maintain cooperative and professional relations with others.

 

  1. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.

 

  1. Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

 

  1. Accept responsibilities for co-curricular activities as assigned when these activities do not interfere with a teacher’s primary teaching assignment.

 

  1. Is responsible for teaching Ser Safe, sanitation, nutrition, culinary skills, career opportunities to high school students wishing to pursue a career as a culinary chef.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by campus administration or CTE Director.

 

  1. Follow all Work from Home Protocols when working remotely.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data.  Maintain emotional control under stress.  Ability to interpret and implement TEA rules and regulations.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Occasional prolonged hours, regular physical demands of stooping, lifting, and other strenuous demands of job performance.
