- Education – Master’s degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
- Follow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation School Evaluation Plan.
- Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program based on Indiana, National, and American School Counselor Association standards.
- Counsel individuals and small groups of students with problems.
- Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the developmental and academic needs of students.
- Refer students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies.
- Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.
- Participate in and facilitate the Response to Intervention team and Student Assistance team processes.
- Schedule and attend meetings with students and or parents as it relates to student academic success, health, safety, and welfare.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records.
- Plan and evaluate the school counseling program.
- Engage and confer with parents and colleagues, creating healthy relationships with students and faculty to address student academic and behavioral needs and create a quality learning environment.
- Promote an understanding and appreciation of diverse populations and cultures.
- Administer assessments as required by the State of Indiana and the corporation.
- Interact with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflects the expectations of leadership within the school and corporation.
- Follow all expectations described in the Duneland School Corporation’s Teacher Agreement and employee handbook.
- Follow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership.
- Monitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participate in sponsorship of department, school, faculty, and district activities and committees.
- Keep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional development.
- Monitor and advise students and their parents as to the progress toward promotion/graduation.
- Prepare students for the transition to the next level within the high school and post-high school activities.
- Meet individually with every 9th-12th-grade student to develop a career plan for scheduling future classes.
- Assist students with scholarship, college, and career entrance, and financial aid applications
- Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
- Advocate for equal access to programs and services for all students.
- Plan and coordinate programs such as career and college fairs, scholarships, and other extensions of the counseling curriculum.
- Adhere to the ethical standards of the state and national school counselor associations.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadership.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills necessary to deal tactfully and effectively with persons at all levels in order to develop and maintain productive relationships with all publics.
- Ability to learn new skills quickly and assimilate into daily work.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality both inside and outside the corporation.

Starting salary for: $54,000 annually
An additional part of Duneland’s application process will be for every new applicant to complete a candidate assessment. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, school counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development for all students. Establishes good relationships with students, parents, and other staff members.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines, and copiers is required.
Hours: The regular counselor day is eight (8) hours, except on those days that counselors are involved in a meeting or plan session called by an administrator or department leader, or counselors having a student/parent conference. 195 days per year.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
