About the Department
Specialized work of a skilled nature involving hands-on and oversight responsibilities in the operation and maintenance of Collections Systems Facilities, including but not limited to associated storage facilities, equipment, electrical panels, appurtenances and grounds. Duties include lead oversight of lift station personnel engaged in the maintenance and operation of the Cities collection system. The employee is expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgment and initiative in solving routine maintenance and operating problems, and serves as a lead in cooperative assignments. Work is reviewed by observation of the Facility Superintendent and through reports.
Position Duties
- Assists the Facilities Superintendent with daily operations, including input on lift station facilities and personnel-related tasks and issues.
- Oversees the operation of the City’s lift stations.
- Maintains the electrical components and telemetry systems.
- Participates and leads crews in the daily maintenance and operation of the lift stations.
- Performs routine to complex maintenance and repair duties of City lift stations, including but not limited to pumps, valves, telemetry systems, odor control systems, electrical panels, motors, and chemicals handling.
- Plans and directs all short and long-term maintenance to ensure continuous, effective, and efficient operation of City lift stations.
- Supervises the repair of equipment and facilities.
- Oversees the work of contractors hired by the City to rehabilitate, apply coating, and upgrade electrical.
- Reviews maintenance records of City stations and adjust workflow to be optimize the City system.
- Performs clerical duties, e.g., data entry; generates spreadsheets for process control; prepares various reports; performs calculations, runs quantitative/qualitative analysis and interprets data for performance evaluation.
- Instructs, trains, and supervises the City lift station crew in procedures and operations; maintains records and prepares periodic summary reports of operations.
- Schedules work of mechanics and technicians.
- Evaluates subordinate employees in the performance of their duties, giving technical advice and direction. Recommends appropriate disciplinary action.
- Ensures that station, equipment, and grounds are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Prepares operating reports.
- Acts as project lead for various lift station-related improvements as needed.
- Routinely works after hours and weekends as necessary to maintain proper lift station operation.
- Responsible for being on-call after hours and on weekends.
- Performs related duties as directed when such duties are logical/appropriate assignment to position.
- Works as a partner with City Electric Supervisor
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; must possess a minimum of State of Florida Wastewater Collection System Operator 3 or be able to acquire one in 12 months of accepting the position. Must be able to troubleshoot control panels. Needs minimum 3 years’ experience with lift stations. Must have experience in the treatment of wastewater with a minimum of 1 years’ experience working at a treatment facility. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Other Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of the functions, service requirements, and operations of all machinery and equipment associated with water and wastewater treatment operations.
Thorough knowledge of the City collection System.
Ability to inspect related machinery and mechanical equipment to detect flaws and defects in operation.
Must be familiar with software applications and programming as related to water and wastewater treatment plant process operations.
Basic knowledge sufficient to allow the identification of PLC and SCADA issues and coordinate resolution with others.
Ability to read and interpret diagnostic and reporting media and maintain records documenting compliance with established City, State, County and environmental regulations/codes.
Ability to recognize short and long-term budgeting needs and assist with developing annual budget.
Ability to supervise and train entry-level and technical staff in the principles, practices, and regulatory standards of the work.
Ability to analyze and interpret equipment readings and to make appropriate operating changes.
