GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Student Worker for Media and Communications, under general supervision, supports the development of various multimedia projects for marketing and communications needs, including assisting with designing, producing, and editing graphics/photos/videos for use across a variety of multimedia platforms. This position also provides administrative support and general office duties for the TDEM Media and Communications division. Collaborates with personnel to perform tasks relevant to the function of the division. Assists support staff with specialized projects or as business operation dictates. Moderate supervision with this position.
This position reports to the Section Chief, Media and Communications and works closely with the Multimedia Specialist. Work is restricted to college students. Priorities or class schedules to be submitted on a weekly basis. Work schedule and work adjustments subject to prior approval.
**This position is not eligible for benefits. Work hours may increase from, up to 19 hours, to up to 40 hours, in-between semester breaks.
The hourly rate is $15.00 and is non-negotiable.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute to supporting multimedia and graphics design projects by assisting with developing multimedia and visual materials (i.e., brochures, signs, newsletters, etc.) according to project needs.
Assist with capturing and reviewing still and motion graphics for use in video production and across multimedia platforms.
Assist with reviewing multimedia requests and following up with requestors when needed. Work with the Multimedia Specialist to create and present branding and design concepts to clients and partners.
Perform clerical duties, take memos, maintain files, and organize documents; photocopy, fax, etc. as needed.
Assist in preparing information and research materials; create and maintain PowerPoint presentations.
Take notes and memos during meetings; type documents, drafts, and reports; sort and manage files.
Run general errands that may require the ability to go from one location to another during working hours.
Manage databases and input information, data, and records.
Attend agency functions and networking events.
Shadow multiple office positions and train in a variety of tasks.
Review, analyze, edit, and summarize documents; ensure all documents within the section are standardized and consistent in formatting.
Fulfill tasks set out by supervisors.
Maintain a regular work schedule, timekeeping, and productivity.
Perform related work or other duties as assigned.
Face-to-face and person-to-person interactions are required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education – Current student status with an institution of higher education or future student enrollment status for the upcoming school semester.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Students pursuing a degree in graphic design, or a media related field are preferred.
Experience in graphic design/animation, video production and/or photography.
Note: Candidates may be required to share graphics portfolio.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to learn about applicable laws, statutes, regulations, guidelines, and policies within the emergency management industry.
Graphic design skills creating visually rich content using video, images, graphics and text.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Skill in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Express), content management tools, social media content creation tools (Canva).
Skill in effective communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other operating systems, and devices.
Ability to assist with multimedia production projects in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to learn and conduct business operations.
Ability to maintain a regular schedule of attendance.
Ability to anticipate, identify issues, and problem solve.
Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to lift or move moderate weight.
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:
Must successfully complete the following emergency management courses within twelve (12) months of employment: ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, ICS-800.
