Under direction, provides direct nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process, performs technical nursing functions and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for adult patients.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
 - Provides direct patient care.
 - Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills.
 - Documents and maintains data on patient’s record.
 - Maintains a safe environment.
 - Applies basic teaching / learning concepts to patient education.
 - Provides for life support.
 - Acts as a patient advocate.
 - Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
 - Participates in performance improvement.
 - Delegates and / or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
 - Performs related work as required.
 - Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
 - Maintains patient confidentiality.
 - Conducts herself/himself effectively in stressful situations.
 - Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
 - Provides basic nursing care under the directions of the Registered Nurse.
 
Education: Vocational/Technical degree in Practical Nursing required.
Certification/License: Louisiana LPN license required. CPR required. ACLS preferred.
Additional Experience Preferred
- One year of LPN experience preferred.
 - One year of Behavioral Health experience preferred.
 - De-escalation training
 - Current knowledge of clinical practice
 - Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
 - Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adult patients.
 - Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
 - Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
