Description
Head Start is a federally-funded, national child and family development program which provides comprehensive services for pregnant women, children from birth to age five, and their families. Services for children promote school readiness, and include early education, health, nutrition, mental health, and services for children with special needs. Services for parents promote family engagement, and include parent leadership and social service supports.
As a Head Start Preschool Teacher, you will serve as lead or co-teacher in an outcomes-oriented, team environment, and provide safe, healthy, friendly, and developmentally appropriate environments and experiences for children ages 3– 5. Motivated Head Start teachers improve the trajectory of children’s lives, including children’s learning outcomes, living standards, and later academic and professional success. 40 hours/week, approximately 42 weeks/year (summer layoff). Rate of pay during first 60- working day probationary period is $22.81- $27.26/hour depending on credentials; post probationary rate of pay is $24.07-$28.75/hour depending on credentials. Health plan and excellent benefits.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related education field; Vermont educator’s license with early childhood education endorsement preferred; knowledge and experience in developmentally appropriate early childhood practice, child outcome assessment, child behavior management, and curriculum planning, development and implementation; a commitment to social justice and to working with families with limited financial resources; excellent verbal and written communication (bilingual abilities a plus!), documentation, and recordkeeping skills; valid driver’s license, clean driving record and access to reliable transportation; physical ability to carry out required tasks.
