Associate Director of Ad Engineering chez Best Buy

As the Associate Director of Ad Engineering, you will lead the technical development and operations of the company's retail ad platform. This role is responsible for overseeing a team of engineers and collaborating closely with product, marketing, data science, and external partners to build and optimize a robust, scalable, and innovative ad platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ad technology and programmatic advertising with the ability to drive technical initiatives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This role is hybrid, which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually from home or other non-Best Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process. For this role, you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield, Minnesota.

What you’ll do

• Define and execute the engineering strategy for the ad platform across GCP and AWS, ensuring alignment with product goals and technical vision
• Collaborate with product management and stakeholders to shape the roadmap and ensure strategic alignment
• Lead, mentor, and support the engineering team, fostering innovation, skill development, and knowledge sharing
• Oversee project delivery and system integration, ensuring timely execution and seamless compatibility with vendor technologies
• Maintain high standards of quality, performance, and reliability across all custom-built and integrated systems
• Stay current with industry trends and optimize platform integrations with demand-side platforms (DSPs), supply-side platforms (SSPs), and third-party data providers

Minimum Requirements

• 6+ years of relevant experience in engineering
• 4+ years of experience with languages like Java and/or ReactJS
• 4+ years of experience building custom systems, cloud environments (GCP & AWS) and architecture design in large environments
• 2+ years experience managing and leading engineering teams

Preferred Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• 9+ years of relevant professional experience in engineering
• 3+ years Experience with Retail Media Networks, Ad Engineering, Ad Servers or Demand Partners
• 5 years experience with engineering custom solutions using modern languages, cloud technologies and SDLC practices and tools.
• Experience working in retail, marketing, or similar technologies and related areas
• Experience with Agile methodologies and modern software development practices including Scrum and Kanban
