About the Department

Under general direction, the purpose of this position is to inspect, install, maintain, and repair water and wastewater pumps, motors, electrical equipment, compressors, valves, controllers, chemical feed system, odor control units, and other related equipment/hardware for water pump stations and wastewater lift stations, or other infrastructure related facilities and equipment.

Position Duties

  • Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
  • Develops daily maintenance and inspection schedules to include all Public Works facilities and associated pumps, motors, and electrical equipment.
  • Conducts preventative and responsive maintenance and troubleshooting activities for pumps, motors, electrical equipment, compressors, valves, controllers, chemical feed systems, odor control units, and other equipment/hardware for water pump stations, wastewater lift stations, or other infrastructure related facilities and equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety and compliance requirements for working with pumps, motors, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs in the field and on site as required.
  • Maintains records for repairs and maintenance duties performed.
  • Creates and maintains an inventory of all pumps, motors, electrical equipment, compressors, valves, controllers, chemical feed systems, odor control units and other equipment/hardware to include all specifications, sizes, parts, serial numbers, model names/numbers, and any other information to improve maintenance/repair efficiency.
  • Creates and maintains a list of approved sources for related equipment and parts.
  • Assists in ensuring safety policies and procedures are updated to reflect industry best practices.
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace City issued personal protective equipment.
  • Assists in the department head with special projects and budget development.
  • Adhere to work schedule as outlined in the City and Department attendance policies and procedures.
  • Participates in local, regional and state organizations.
  • Assist in keeping department leadership informed of new industry equipment, technologies, developments, and other advancements that would improve infrastructure sustainability and department operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.
  • Attendance; regular and timely attendance during assigned work hours. After hours and weekend work required as necessary.
  • Participate and assist, as directed, in City functions and events.
  • Deadlines; ability to set and meet appropriate deadlines. Timely follow-up and follow-through with staff and others. Effectively multi-task and work under time pressure and deadlines.
  • Communications & Record Keeping; ability to read, comprehend and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in English. Communicate effectively and professionally with staff, volunteers, council and others. Ability to maintain and retain all records and follow the City’s record retention policy.
  • Customer Service; must be professional, respectful, helpful, and polite to staff, volunteers, council members, and others at all times. All work must be performed in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Financial; ensure all expenditures are within budget. Utilize the City’s Procurement Card (P-Card) in ethical and responsible manner. Submit receipts monthly. Ensure all financial functions, recordkeeping, and reporting are performed timely and accurately and that records are properly created and maintained.
  • Policies & Procedures; perform duties in accordance with City policies, procedures, standards, and comply with local, state, and federal law.
  • Safety; follow safety policies and rules.
  • Stay Current; keep up with trends and changes.
  • Confidential Information; safeguard confidential information and disclose only to those in “need to know”.
  • Teamwork; work effectively with others as part of team to ensure efficient operations and enhanced productivity.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalency and preferred three (3) years of experience in public relations or related field; must have effective persuasive oral and written communication skills; must have working knowledge of public relations and marketing techniques; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Flexible working schedule. Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License, must have a working cell phone and ability to respond to after-hours calls. Reliable transportation, and ability to drive; maintain and provide proof of liability insurance. Have and maintain professional, inviting, and friendly demeanor. Ability to pass a background check, pre-employment drug screening, and physical exam.

Tasks may risk exposure to electrical and mechanical hazards that can cause serious bodily injury or death.
