The Prince George’s County Department of Family Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Executive Administrative Aide (Executive Administrative Aide G), grade G21, in the Office of the Director.


About the Position

This is an advance administrative secretarial position in the Director’s Office, whereby the incumbent applies a broad knowledge of County government functions to support the Director of the Department of Family Services. The incumbent performs duties to include sensitive, controversial an privileged assignments utilizing independent judegment and intiative via directives of the Director. The incumbent will serve as the lead departmental staff regarding secretarial, administrative, and office management work assignments. The incumbent may have direct and independent contact with all levels of management throughout the County and the public.
About the Agency

The Department of Family Services improves the quality of life and overall well-being of the communities by providing information, assistance and referrals, as well as promoting and developing high quality, innovative programs that educate, empower, respect choice and preserve dignity. The department is responsible for providing assistance to some of the County’s most vulnerable citizens – children, families, victims of domestic violence, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, veterans, and seniors. The department is comprised of three divisions that serve the aging and disabled, victims of domestic violence, as well as children, youth and families in need of support and resources.

Position Duties


  • Performs executive level secretarial and administrative duties in support of the  Director
  • Reviews, develops, and revises departmental policies and procedures
  • Enters and retrieves data associated with inquiries and investigations
  • Answers and screens incoming phone calls for the Director
  • Provides answers to questions/inquiries and/or refer to appropriate department/agency
  • Handles requests, complaints, and prepares responses for Director signature
  • Coordinates a variety of internal activities and special assignments
  • Receives and schedules all incoming meeting and event requests for the Director; composes letters, memorandums, and reports for the Director's approval
  • Serves as liaison between internal and external customers
  • Collaborates with staff regarding administrative and office management functions; researches and organizes materials for meetings, conferences, and/or hearings
  • Serves as a County Procurement Cardholder regarding procurement of assigned operating units
  • Negotiates and purchases office supplies, equipment, furniture, etc.
  • Manages and organizes Director's office operations, clerical functions, and filing systems

Minimum Qualifications


  • Must have experience at the Administrative Aide IV level equal to the length of the probationary period 
OR
  • Associate's degree in business administration or secretarial science 
  • Three (3) years of senior level secretarial/administrative experience which involved working with the public, office management and operational details, and staff supervision 
  • Applicants must be proficient in typing and shorthand where required
Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be accepted

Conditions of Employment:  Upon selection, the candidate must: 

  • Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken the exam on or after8/1/2024,and passed, will not be required to re-test; instead, previous test scores will be used to receive the passing disposition. 
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.  
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.  
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable. 
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
