Process Engineer - Marshall, MN
 
Job Summary
This position assists with the management of capital projects to improve the operation of the Marshall plant. They will oversee the design and implementation of process projects required for production. This includes identifying and evaluating project opportunities; requesting authorization for projects; as well as designing, installing, and commissioning approved projects. This person will have the opportunity to utilize engineering skills to improve operations processes including reliability, yields, and operability.
 
Essential Job Functions
  • Primary responsibility will be to ensure stewardship of viable process projects from inception to commissioning. This involves effective management of personnel and resources to balance schedules, budgets, and scope/quality of a project. The process engineer will work closely with other process engineers, site project coordinators, contractors, process engineers, and operations personnel. They will provide oversight of construction personnel during the course of project by working in the field on a daily basis.
  • They will manage project budgets and resources. Written and verbal communication of project activities and key metrics shall be provided to managers and other stakeholders. They will size equipment, develop equipment lists, detail P&ID’s, and other front end engineering tasks. They will participate in process hazard analysis, contractor safety, and productivity improvements. They will proactively participate in safety, environmental, quality, and production processes in order to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures. They will assist in developing operating procedures and training production personnel on unit operations for start-up.
  • They shall maintain an awareness of industry trends and investigate the means by which projects can be improved, implemented, and managed. This includes capturing lessons learned and developing best practices ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures.
  • Process engineers are expected to develop colleagues through training, technical support, and mentoring opportunities.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of production and/or operation experience preferred.
  • Must be able to apply engineering competencies to practical real world situations.
  • Colleague will help design process systems and equipment required for the production of company products.
  • General knowledge of codes, relevant standards, and materials related to industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial chemical plant processes and related systems such as: pressure vessels, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control is desired.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills are necessary to be a valued colleague in this facility.  The candidate must be able to effectively interact with multiple employees and managers. Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating, instructing, and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way.
  • The candidate must be able to continuously improve utilizing independent judgment to solve problems and have excellent organizational skills in order to effectively handle multiple ongoing tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage personnel, budgets, schedules, and other resources.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and detailed written are needed to be effective in this position.

  • General knowledge of software systems such as Maximo, Microsoft Office applications (Project, Excel, Access, Word, and SharePoint), Aspen, and CAD.

    • The scope of the position may have exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
  • Inside areas:
    • Spring / Summer:   Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees
    • Fall / Winter:  Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.
  • Outside areas:
    • Spring / Summer:   Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity.   May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
    • Fall / Winter:   Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below.   May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs from waist to shoulder on an occasional basis
  • No push/pull requirement
  • Must be able to walk 1-3 hours
  • Must be able to sit 5-8 hours
  • Must be able to squat/kneel on an occasional basis
  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders on an occasional basis
  • Constant computer/keyboarding

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$72,900.00 - $136,200.00
