Qualifications:

  • SC Certification in the area of Elementary or Early Childhood is required
  • Master’s degree required
  • Read to Succeed Literacy Teacher Endorsement required
  • At least five years of successful classroom experience at the elementary level
  • Outstanding leadership and teamwork skills
  • Expertise in the area of best practices for literacy and reading intervention
  • Experience working with adult learners 
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
  • Expertise in technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills    

Reports to:  Principal

 

Job Goal:  To serve as the literacy coach at the elementary level

       

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Participates in state training to achieve the literacy coach/specialist endorsement
  • Teaches the R2S courses required by the state reading plan
  • Models effective instructional strategies for teachers
  • Facilitates study groups in the area of literacy for the faculty 
  • Trains teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate literacy instruction
  • Coaches and mentors colleagues in the area of literacy
  • Works with teachers to ensure that scientifically-based literacy programs are implemented 
  • Leads and supports literacy leadership teams
  • Participates in student intervention team meetings
  • Assists in the implementation of the district and school Reading Plans
  • Provides model lessons as requested by other teachers or the principal
  • Supports teachers in the implementation of ELA standards
  • Facilitates professional learning opportunities as directed by the principal
  • Participates in professional learning workshops and conferences
  • Assists with the collection of data and the analysis of data for school improvement
  • Completes reports and paperwork as required
  • Collaborates with administrators, lead teachers and reading interventionists 
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as directed by the principal

 

Terms of Employment:  190 day contract with salary determined by placement on district teacher salary schedule and board approved annual supplement; exempt



Evaluation: Job performance evaluated annually in accordance with board policy
