Description
The Coating Support Technician is responsible for preparing parts for paint, dry film lube, and/or bluecoat/scotchcast. The coating support technician may also be responsible for unmasking/touching up parts after coatings have been applied. The technician will also operate coating equipment which includes masking plotter, blast units, ovens, fluidized bed, & electrostatic powder coat gun.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work from and follow process specifications, routers, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, work instructions, relevant process controls, and verbal/written instruction.
- Required to operate all powder coat equipment when needed.
- Prepare & coat parts per required procedures which includes cleaning, blasting, masking, preheat/cure oven, temp and time control, powder coating, and unmasking/touch up.
- Conduct in process inspections and measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of coating thicknesses. Visually inspect parts throughout the coating process for any nonconformances.
- Remove FOD, paint or powder coat overspray, and any other abnormal defects from work piece.
- Required to operate and maintain all cleaning and masking equipment, powder coat equipment, fabricated fixtures and monitor required inventories.
- Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as needed for the Coating department.
- Requires the use of basic computer skills.
- Perform housekeeping chores as Coating department requirements dictate.
- All work areas must be kept clean and orderly.
- Other duties as assigned by Team Leader.

- Effectively uses process, equipment, tooling and follows sequence of operations.
- Cares for parts in accordance with procedures (Corrosion Protection/Handling/FOD).
- Work to standard and contributes to continuous improvement; communicates issues to Team Leader in a timely manner.

Education & Experience Requirements
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and three to five years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- The employee must possess the ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form.
