JOB SUMMARY:

Diagnostic Endoscopy Center is seeking an experienced Insurance Verification Specialist with a diverse skillset. The Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying medical benefits, confirming the patients' financial responsibility, and ensuring facility compliance with managed care requirements. The Insurance Verification Specialist ensures that pre-certification, authorization, and referrals are in place for surgical cases, and that payor and responsible party information is entered correctly into the accounting system. The Insurance Verification Specialist informs patients of their financial liability to the surgery center and assists with patient account inquiries. The Insurance Verification Specialist must be detail-oriented and organized, and demonstrate excellent telephone etiquette and communication skills. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Confirms primary and secondary payers, verifies insurance identification numbers and prior approval numbers, obtains correct insurance coverage, and notifies patients of their  insurance co-payment due by contacting insurance companies, doctors’ offices and patients via telephone. Verifies insurance coverage for local HMOs electronically.
• Oversees the review of scheduled patient appointments for self-pay patient accounts to ensure arrangements for pre-payment, and assists in the daily review of preliminary insurance information to determine ASC coverage.
• Responds to patients’ billing questions by telephone and/or in person.

• Performs such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be required.

EDUCATION:

High School graduate or equivalent. Healthcare experience preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two or more years of working experience in a healthcare environment performing business office functions, or billing duties in a hospital or physician practice setting
• Familiarity with EMR systems and  insurance portals

• The Insurance Verification Specialist will work Monday – Friday in a team-oriented environment.
