The Global Trade Import Specialist is the company’s subject matter expert as it relates to Imported goods, tracking and tracing, and Import compliance procedures. Responsibilities include maintaining visibility to Daikin’s imported products and maintaining a high level of compliance with all US Customs regulations and requirements. Ensures work aligns with the Company’s objectives and strategies.
Position Responsibilities may include:
- Maintain up to date and current Import compliance procedures and ensure that all employees involved in the import of materials, parts and products are following all US Customs guidelines.
- Assist the Global Trade Compliance Manager with development of processes and procedures and filling in to help with compliance issues in the absence of the Global Trade Compliance Manager.
- Train employees on proper procedures
- Audit of all Goodman entities involved with Import
- Update and maintain accurate records of all import transactions and related trade matters
- Notify Legal when inquiries from US Customs agencies are received that require a formal Goodman response.
- Classification of all SKUs and models with the correct Harmonized Tariff Schedule
- Ensure all SKUs and models have the correct Country of Origin identified
- Keep up with changes to US Customs regulations
- Ensure containers are returned to the port in a reasonable time frame to avoid per diem costs
- Notify Operations/Receiving of pending container deliveries so they are prepared to accept and receive the product.
- Track and verify USCBP duties and taxes payable – notifying Treasury of pending payments
- Publish daily yard reports of what is currently on the yard to be unloaded
- Invoice verification
- Audit of inventory to ensure country of origin markings and descriptions are correct
- Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs

- Applies advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience
- Manages projects and processes while working independently and with limited supervision
- Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals
- Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex; takes a new perspective on existing solutions
Knowledge & Skills:
- Solid knowledge of the USCBP Harmonized Tariff System
- Knowledge of Denied Parties Lists
- Ability to interact with other departments and provide training on US Customs procedures
- Ability to stay abreast of regulatory changes – ongoing education
- May require expert level understanding of applicable government export regulations
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office –Outlook, Word, Excel and Tracking/Tracing Carrier Systems
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational & time management skills and resourcefulness
- Excellent record keeping, auditing and compliance practices
- Ability to perform analysis of highest complexity that requires the review of a variety of factors

Competency:
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in an import related environment
- 3+ years of experience in tracking and tracing import shipments using carrier tracking systems
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- College degree preferred
- U.S. Customs Brokers License required
