About the Department

The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) is looking for a dedicated Coastal Resources Scientist Senior DCL B in the Planning and Research Division to support our mission of protecting and restoring Louisiana’s coast. The incumbent provides expert scientific and technical guidance to senior leadership, supports adaptive management initiatives, and mentors junior staff in support of Louisiana’s coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection programs. Work is performed under broad direction and in alignment with state and federal regulations, advancing CPRA’s mission to protect and preserve the state’s vital coastal resources.
Position Duties
A bachelor's degree in one of the following fields: biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus four years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A master's degree in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus three years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology; OR
A Ph.D. in biological sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, environmental sciences, natural sciences, engineering or a related field plus two years of experience in coastal resource management, wetland resource management, environmental science, natural resource management, or biology.

Other Qualifications
- Serves as a senior advisor and technical expert, providing specialized scientific and policy guidance to support the integration of multidisciplinary principles across engineering, natural, physical, social, and economic sciences in advancing CPRA’s coastal restoration and hurricane flood protection program
- Serves as the primary point of contact for the CPRA Non-Structural Flood Risk Reduction Program (FRRP), coordinating outreach with local stakeholders and ensuring consistent implementation across funding sources in alignment with best practices and the State’s Coastal Master Plan
- Prepares and reviews technical reports and presentations for senior leadership and external stakeholders, provides scientific guidance on coastal restoration and hurricane protection documents, and represents the Planning and Research Division at public forums and technical committees
- Maintains expert knowledge of relevant research, scientific, and engineering protocols, as well as politically sensitive regulations and programs, advising CPRA leadership on potential issues and recommending solutions to support effective program implementation
- Provides functional supervision and mentorship to lower-level Coastal Resources Scientists and technical staff, offering expert scientific support to the Planning and Research Division and fostering professional development
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Promotional
Compensation: The bi-weekly minimum hire rate established for this position in accordance with CPRA’s Special Entrance Rate Policy is $3,076.80. The maximum salary for the Coastal Resources Scientist Senior DCL B is $126,256 annually.

This position will be filled by Promotion of a permanent, classified CPRA employee.
