Job Description:

 

Under limited supervision, manage the day-to-day operations of the assigned clinical engineering service line. Assist management with program management, including equipment repair, equipment calibration, and preventive maintenance, supervising and directing staff, planning and organizing workload, creating and maintaining open lines of communication, customer service, financial management, and team development. 

 

• Coordinate, manage and perform biomedical equipment maintenance, repair, calibration and evaluation of clinical equipment included in the “Electromechanical” service line. The focus of this service line includes hospital patient beds, stretchers, and equipment used in instrument sterilization such as washer disinfectors, steam sterilizers, and low-temperature sterilizers.

• Support and repair biomedical service equipment, including daily assignment of tasks. Monitor and control budgets to assure the most cost-effective and efficient operation for the assigned service line. 

• Provide supervision of service line technicians, including employee motivation, hiring, discharge, discipline, and promotion and performance evaluation. 

• Provide technical training and mentorship to other employees on equipment operation and checkout, repairs, preventative maintenance, quality assurance practices, procedures, and documentation. 

• Assist in the evaluation of new equipment and makes recommendations pertaining to electrical and functional conformance to standards. 

• Evaluate equipment problems and implement appropriate repairs with minimum supervision, maintaining effective customer relations and customer protocol. 

• Participate in hazard identification and medical device reporting procedures to ensure the patient care environment is safe. 

• Maintain and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory bodies, including CMS, TJC and AAMI among others.

• Instruct customer personnel on safe equipment operation. 

• Perform preventive maintenance and calibration on medical equipment. 

• Maintain adequate files and parts inventory for assignments. 

• Achieve productivity, customer satisfaction and other established performance measures.  

• Participate in on-call rotation. 

• Up to 80% domestic travel required between UMMS medical facilities in Baltimore, MD; Glen Burnie, MD; Bowie, MD; Laurel, MD; Largo, MD; La Plata, MD; Towson, MD; Cambridge, MD; Chestertown, MD; Easton, MD; Denton, MD; Queenstown, MD; Bel Air, MD; and Aberdeen, MD.

 

Compensation:             $108,056 to $115,000 per year

Qualifications:
  • Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering or closely related technical field. 

    • Seven (7) years of experience working on biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment.  

    • Three (3) years of lead tech/supervisory experience. 

    • Valid driver’s license.  

     

    Alternate Minimum Requirements

    • Nine (9) years of experience working on biomedical equipment in a clinical engineering environment.  

    • Three (3) years of lead tech/supervisory experience. 

    • Valid driver’s license.
