About the Department

Join the City of Hampton as a Senior Infrastructure Inspector!  We are seeking a detail-oriented and solutions-driven professional with a strong commitment to performing routine and complex inspections of new and existing wastewater systems within the City of Hampton.  This position ensures compliance with all regulatory standards, approved plans, construction designs, codes, and specifications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional accuracy and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. This role requires the ability to prepare complex documentation such as specifications, cost estimates, and bid proposals, as well as the capability to clearly interpret and explain detailed policies, standards, and regulations. A strong focus on precision, professionalism, and client satisfaction is essential.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma, successful completion of GED, or specialized vocational training in the construction of sanitary sewer infrastructure. 
  • Eight (8) years of full-time work experience in construction, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of sanitary sewers or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of local and state construction and environmental codes.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position. 
  • Must obtain and maintain all necessary training and certifications to remain consistent with local regulations within 1 year of employment to include National Association of Sewer Service Companies (NASSCO) certifications for rehabilitation work:
    • PACP (Pipe Assessment Certification Program)
    • MACP (Manhole Assessment Certification Program)
    • LACP (Lateral Assessment Certification Program)
    • ITCP-CIPP (Inspector Training Certification Program-Cured In Place Pipe)
    • ITCP-Manhole Rehab (Inspector Training Certification Program -Manhole)
  • Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Responsible Land Disturber (DEQ RLD) Certification is required within 180 days of employment.
  • National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and Hampton Roads Planning District Commission – Regional Construction Standards (HRPDC-RCS) Certifications are preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements
  • Must be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must be able to work long shifts during adverse weather conditions.
  • This position requires extensive contact with the general public, related agencies, community organizations, contractors, and other City departments.
  • Ability to use desktop/laptop computer and be familiar with software is required; must be able to perform electronic research to include but not limited to, GIS and work-related websites.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with commercial and residential customers.
  • The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
