Villa Caritas is a 150-bed acute secure geriatric psychiatry hospital. The hospital has 5 units each composed of 30 beds. Our facility provides comprehensive interdisciplinary assessment, individualized care and treatment with the goal of achieving maximum rehabilitation, optimal function and overall wellness to older adults with complex cognitive and psychiatric challenges. Unit 1A is a 30 bed acute care unit which provides assessment and treatment for patients who have organic disorders and are demonstrating moderate to severe behavioral dysfunctions. These behaviors may include aggression, resistance to care, and sexual inappropriateness. Common diagnoses include Alzheimer’s, followed by Vascular Dementia. Upon discharge, patients are placed in the most suitable and supportive community living environment. A large number of patients go to continuing care facilities. The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day unit operation including direct supervision of unit staff (RN/RPN, Unit Clerk, LPN, HCA and students). They may also provide direct or indirect supervision to allied health professionals on the unit, dependent on unit/department/facility. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members daily and provide clinical support to patient/resident care by exception only. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient/resident care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff.Finally, the Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and adheres and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values.This position is non-unionized.

The Unit Manager The Unit Manager reports to the Program Manager and plays a key role in safe and timely patient care and patient/client outcomes. To minimize negative outcomes, Unit Manager must possess considerable clinical knowledge, skill level and leadership abilities. Unit Manager must have knowledge related to protocols, standards and techniques for the department and patient/client population. The Unit Manager work impacts the level of patient/client care by ensuring that clinical practice reflects the most current, evidence-based techniques and standards. As well they apply and utilizes leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assist others in providing care. The Unit Manager uses sound judgment, initiative and creativity to resolve issues brought forward by unit staff, physicians, patients/residents/clients, families, departments or other service providers.
