Summary/Objective

The Director of Mission provides leadership and direction to ensure the integration of the mission and culture of Volunteers of America (VOA). This role engages employees in a variety of ways to ensure the organization is maintaining its values. This position is responsible for the creation and implementation of organizational strategies related to employee retention, engagement, and satisfaction.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with individuals to advance the understanding of VOA's mission and core values.
  • Promote the mission, values, and culture by creating an environment that supports accountability.
  • Responsible for internal communication to ensure staff are equipped and informed (JACK, VOA Today).
  • Positively contributes to departmental and organizational relationships.
  • Conduct quarterly culture tours to foster strong interdepartmental team cohesion. 
  • Manage organizational culture committee
  • Orient new hires to the mission and cultural values of the organization.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to recognize and celebrate employees who demonstrate a commitment to the organizational mission.
  • Assess and advance employee engagement and satisfaction.
  • Steward a culture of learning and growth.
  • Implement a standard of practices such as building strong relationships, active listening, clear and transparent communication, consistent and timely feedback, and clear expectations.
  • Provide coaching and resources to help resolve and prevent interpersonal and team conflicts and adapt to different leadership styles.
  • Help define and create strategies for organizational culture goals, working to make VOA the region’s employer of choice.
  • Support efforts and processes to select, retain, and develop talent and expertise in staff.
  • Oversee the creation and implementation of programs that build momentum for employee engagement.
  • Coordinate with HR to manage and resolve complex employee relations issues arising from cultural misalignment.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will have staff oversight and may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is required for this position.

Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications

  • Requires commitment to VOA’s cardinal doctrines and commissioning within two years.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
