Accreditation Manager
Department: Police Administration Location: Southern Pines, NCType of Position: Full-Time
Expected Hiring Range: $61,000 to $74,000 (Grade 23)

The Town of Southern Pines is a growing service-oriented community with a population of approximately 17,400, seeking qualified candidates for a progressive and professional CALEA Nationally Accredited Police Department. The Southern Pines Police Department is a highly trained, professional organization that has embraced the concept of Community Oriented Policing.
Job Description and Typical Duties
Under the direction and oversight of the Chief of Police, the Accreditation Manager will oversee and maintain accreditation compliance records to ensure the department meets an established set of professional standards enacted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The Accreditation Manager will:
- Formulate and implement plans and programs to assure the continued compliance and periodic CALEA reaccreditation of the department
- Works in a non-sworn capacity with Patrol, Communications and Investigations in order to stay abreast of those functions and assure close working relationships with other personnel
- Review and make a determination of the effect or impact of any new or revised accreditation standards on the department and its compliance level
- Evaluate all new departmental directives, special orders, or similar documents to determine their compliance with accreditation standards, and assist with the writing or rewriting of departmental directives as they relate to the accreditation effort
- Responsible for all files, records and activities relevant to the department�s accreditation efforts
- Conducts analysis of recruiting activities and evaluations of crime prevention activities
- Assists command staff with developing promotional assessment centers
Education, Skills and Certifications
- Possess a Bachelor�s degree or higher level of collegiate education (Preferred)
- Ten (10) years� experience working in the criminal justice system relative to enforcing criminal law or equivalent experience (Preferred)
- Law enforcement experience or equivalent in positions of increasing responsibility, and experience working with citizens both in group and individual settings to resolve crime issues (Preferred)
- Experience or formal training as an Accreditation Manager (Preferred)
- Experience and/or familiarity with GIS systems and systems used for analysis of crime (Preferred)
- Experience in grant writing, internet-based research methods and event planning
- Must have strong speaking and presentation skills in order to address citizen and police groups
- Makes special presentations to citizen groups concerning subjects related to CALEA Accreditation, with focus on the benefits for the agency and community
- Must have demonstrated ability to maintain cooperative and effective public relations, with skill in communicating with the public and articulating the police department�s position in circumstances when required
- Ability to write clear and legible reports
- Skilled in or able to learn photography, graphic design and technical editing
- Ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and politely. The Accreditation Manager shall conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times so as to maintain a reputation of excellent character and credibility in the community
- The Accreditation Manager will be evaluated through observation, discussion and review of required work and reports
- Ability to remain calm and effective under heavy workloads
- Responsible for the compliance with the prescribed duties and responsibilities for the position and policies, procedures, rules and directives of the department
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
- Skill in use of department computer software including but not limited to CAD, RMS, Mapping
- Ability to maintain extreme confidentiality
- Must submit to an extensive criminal background investigation, psychological evaluation and pre-employment drug screen
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see, hear, operate a computer, and speak clearly and calmly
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds regularly
- Must be able to remain sitting and stationary for extended periods of time
- Must be able to perform the physical life functions of reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
Working Conditions
- This position primarily works indoors in a climate controlled open office environment
- This position requires occasional evening and weekend work
- This position is considered a �NON-ESSENTIAL POSITION,� meaning that work may not be required during extreme weather events and other emergency situations
- This employee must have the ability to drive and maintain a valid North Carolina driver�s license and an excellent driving record
- This position requires occasional travel to training and conferences

The Selection Process is expected to take between four (4) weeks and eight (8) weeks. The process consists of the following steps:
Step 1: Oral Interview � (Allocate 1 hour for this step) � All positions
Step 2: Writing Exercise � (Allocate 30 minutes for this step) � Sworn positions
Step 3: Background Investigation � (This investigation takes 1 to 2 weeks) � All Positions
Step 4: Conditional Offer of Employment � All Positions
Step 5: Drug Screen � (Allocate 15 minutes for this step) � All Positions
Step 6: Physical Examination � (Allocate 30 minutes to 1 hour for this step) � Sworn and Telecommunicator Positions, and other positions as designated by the Chief of Police
Step 7: Psychological Examination � (Allocate 1 to 2 hours for this step) � Sworn and Telecommunicator Positions, and other positions as designated by the Chief of Police.
Step 8: Firearms Qualifications � (Allocate 4 hours for this step) � Sworn Positions
Step 9: Offer of Employment � All Positions
