Position Summary

 

Livingstone College seeks a dynamic and visionary academic leader with a deep commitment to teaching, learning, and student success to serve as Dean of the Division of Education, Psychology, and Social Work. The ideal candidate will guide faculty in advancing high-quality academic programs, fostering innovation, and promoting student achievement. The Dean will lead the development of new curricula, programs, and grant initiatives aligned with the College’s mission.

This position requires an individual capable of strategic planning and implementation of academic programs; effective communication of the College’s mission and goals to internal and external audiences; recruitment and retention of both students and faculty; and the ability to secure external funding. The Division Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and serves on a twelve-month appointment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional leadership and ensure the effective operation of the Division of Education, Psychology, and Social Work.
  • Teach six (6) credit hours or two (2) courses per semester.
  • Serve on the Academic Council, Deans’ Council, and other campus-wide committees as assigned.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and supervision of faculty and staff within the Division.
  • Lead efforts to recruit, retain, and support students in the Division’s programs.
  • Coordinate curriculum development and programmatic revisions within the Division.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of full-time and part-time faculty to promote instructional excellence.
  • Assign teaching loads and course schedules for full-time and adjunct faculty.
  • Advise, audit, and mentor students to support academic success and professional growth.
  • Maintain a minimum of eight (8) office hours per week for student engagement and support.
  • Organize and facilitate Division meetings and faculty professional development activities.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Division’s budget, monitor expenditures, and ensure proper maintenance of assigned facilities and equipment.
  • Develop, implement, and assess student learning outcomes at both the course and program levels.
  • Promote the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.
  • Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support Division programs, including participation in grant writing and resource development initiatives.
  • Lead strategic planning, continuous improvement efforts, learning outcomes assessment, and program-level accreditation and review processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

 

What you will need to be successful!

  • Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Education, Psychology, or Social Work (required).
  • Demonstrated administrative experience as a Department Chair, Dean, or comparable role (required).
  • Minimum of five years of full-time teaching experience in Education, Psychology, or Social Work (required).
  • Proven record of effective leadership, scholarship, program development, administrative achievement, and professional service.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the enthusiasm and professionalism needed to engage diverse faculty, students, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to plan, organize, and coordinate complex initiatives (preferred).
  • Successful experience teaching in traditional, hybrid, and online learning environments.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard, Anthology, Navigate360, Microsoft Office, and other instructional and administrative technologies (preferred).
