Duties and Responsibilities

  • Integrate and implement physical education strategies into instructional strategies that assist students with motor, social, and learning goals
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and supplementary materials adapted to the needs of each assigned student/group of students
  • Communicate with teachers, clinicians and parents regarding student progress, strengths, and needs
  • Structure and provide a variety of appropriate indoor and outdoor Physical Education programming and instruction for individual and group students
  • Develop appropriate Physical Education programming to suit the maturity and skill levels of the students
  • Provide consultation, support and training for teachers, assistants, aides and other staff regarding the Physical Education program needs for students
  • Maintain accurate and current records on the children who participate in the Physical Education program, including sharing behavior and progress information with appropriate parties
  • Maintain current inventory and make recommendations regarding appropriate purchases to enhance lesson implementation and address students’ goals and objectives
  • Maintain professional competence and necessary certification by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities
  • Participate in agency functions and various community meetings as requested
  • Serve as a member of the classroom team as needed to educate and facilitate dissemination of information on procedures, individual student needs, and/or safety
  • Aid classroom staff when necessary
  • Provide supervisory and didactic services for area college students interested in pursuing physical education careers
  • All other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or Special Education
  • NYS certified in Physical Education or Special Education and working toward certification in Physical Education
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or concentration in Adapted Physical Education and/or Special Education
