Medical & Clinical Laboratory Technician Pre-Apprentice
About Students 2 Science:
Students 2 Science’s mission is to inspire and empower all students through hands-on learning experiences, encouraging them to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to strengthen the future workforce. Through Students 2 Science’s STEM programs, students will build a greater understanding of STEM, enhance technical skills, and be provided with information and guidance on STEM education and career pathways. Upon completion of the S2S pre-apprenticeship program, you will receive a certificate of completion along with being provided support to connect with an apprenticeship program, employment and/or higher education.
Description:
- This is an in-person position at our Apollo Technology Center in Whippany, NJ.
- Pre-Apprenticeship duration: January to April 2026.
- You will receive a monetary stipend of $250 per week upon completion of program milestones.
- You are required to participate in the program for a minimum of 16 hours a week.
- You will be on-site at least 2 days a week between the hours of 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Monday to Friday).
- You will gain meaningful hands-on work experience, develop technical lab skills, and develop foundational skills for the professional world.
- You will be trained on the following: Gas chromatographer, UV/VIS spectrophotometers, High pressure liquid chromatographer, Dissolution baths, Thermocycler, qPCR thermocycler, UV Transilluminator.
Responsibilities:
- Provide support for and encourage success for students participating in the day’s laboratory session.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and comfortable work environment for all students, teachers, and S2S staff members inside and outside of the lab.
- Stage and prepare a clean work environment for the following day.
- Assist lab instructors in the daily operations of program development and implementation.
- Attend weekly meetings with instruction team and one-on-ones with your project manager.
- You will be required to complete a final capstone project using the skills you have learned in the laboratory, the research you have compiled, and the time instructing labs. This will include researching a specific topic and developing a middle school or high school in-lab experiment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- You are a college student from a community college, college, or university.
- You are a resident of New Jersey.
- Your major or concentration area is in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or similar major).
- You have completed at least 24 hours of college coursework at the time of applying.
- You have completed Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus at the high school or college level.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English. Good auditory and visual skills are required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Possess strong organization, interpersonal, and proactive problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with youth is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
