General Position Summary:  

Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of parish ministry to its youth and young adults. The Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry is responsible for developing, coordinating, and leading a youth ministry program for middle school and high school students in alignment with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church. . The coordinator fosters the faith formation, spiritual growth, and active participation of youth in the life of the parish, guiding them to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  •  Develop and lead weekly youth group meetings, retreats, service projects, and faith-based activities for middle and high school youth.
  • catechetical programs in accordance with Church teachings, including preparation for Confirmation (if applicable).
  • Recruit, train, and supervise adult volunteers and peer leaders.
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and faith-filled environment for all youth.
  • Coordinate participation in Diocesan Youth events (e.g., youth rallies, mission trips, conferences).
  • Collaborate with parish staff and ministries to integrate youth into the broader parish life.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and parishioners about youth ministry activities via email, bulletin, website, and social media.
  • Maintain records of youth participation, sacramental preparation, and safe environment compliance.
  • Manage the youth ministry budget and fundraise as needed for events and trips.
  • Attend regular parish staff meetings and diocesan youth ministry training or networking events.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Pastor and supervisor.

  • Priest, Director of Religious Education, Parish Secretary, Business Manager, Parish Council

 

External Contacts:

  • Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.

 

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

  • This position works in a typical office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding needs of the Diocese, tight deadlines and moderate workloads.
  • Ability to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods of time.
  • Able to access and maintain centralized departmental files.  Involves extending arms and reaching files stored in multiple levels on shelves, climbing up a stepladder to access files.
  • Ability to accept work interruptions while remaining focused on duties.  
  • Data entry via computer keyboard requires repetitive and frequent hand and wrist movements.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
  • This position requires working some nights and weekends.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Infrequent travel, by car, may be required to approved events .

 

Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Practicing Catholic, faithful to the Magisterium and in good standing with the Catholic Church. 
  • Knowledge / ability to share Catholic faith to youth.
  • Must have the ability / experience to design and implement a variety of youth-oriented programs.
  • Must past a background check and complete Safe Environment training per Diocesan polity.

 

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled at strategic planning
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability to work with parents and children of all ages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competency in catechetical methodology
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated history of good judgement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for adaptability and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to skillset to listen empathetically, make peace, and de-escalate.
  • Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to receive, understand, retain, and complete verbal and written tasks.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work efficiently with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to work well with people from a diverse variety of audiences.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/ English) is highly desirable but not required.

 

FLSA Designation:  Non-Exempt. Occasional, 10-12 hours per week, Onsite.
