- Advanced Circuit Design and System Architecture:
- Lead the design and development of analog and digital circuits, power systems, and signal processing subsystems for complex products.
- Define system-level architecture and component selection for electronic systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Develop and validate circuit designs, from initial concept through simulation, prototyping, testing, and integration.
- Design and implement complex control systems, including microcontrollers, DSPs (digital signal processors), and FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), as required for product functionality.
- PCB Design and Layout Oversight:
- Lead and mentor the PCB design process, ensuring that layouts are optimized for signal integrity, manufacturability, and thermal management.
- Review and approve PCB designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., IPC-2221) and internal design guidelines.
- Oversee the entire PCB development lifecycle, including schematic capture, layout, review, and prototyping.
- Perform simulations (e.g., thermal, electromagnetic, signal integrity) to validate PCB design before mass production.
- Prototyping and Integration:
- Oversee the prototyping and testing of new designs, ensuring that the systems perform as intended in real-world conditions.
- Lead the integration of new electronic components and subsystems into larger, complex systems.
- Develop test plans, protocols, and procedures for hardware validation, performance testing, and debugging of prototypes.
- Work closely with mechanical, software, and firmware teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware with other system components.
- Mentorship and Team Leadership:
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers, helping them grow in their roles and develop strong design skills.
- Lead design reviews and technical discussions, ensuring that all engineering solutions meet design objectives and are of the highest quality.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, encouraging the team to explore creative solutions and continuous improvements in design processes.
- Lead cross-functional teams to address design challenges and ensure the successful execution of complex engineering projects.
- Project Management and Technical Leadership:
- Take ownership of major design projects, from initial planning and concept through to final implementation and production.
- Coordinate with project managers and other departments (e.g., manufacturing, quality, and supply chain) to ensure timely delivery of design solutions.
- Develop and maintain project timelines, resource plans, and risk management strategies to ensure that projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Provide regular updates to senior management on project progress, key milestones, and potential risks.
- Design Validation and Testing:
- Lead the creation of comprehensive test plans for new designs and modifications, ensuring alignment with product requirements and quality standards.
- Oversee the testing of prototypes and production units to verify functional performance, compliance with industry standards, and quality assurance.
- Troubleshoot complex electrical issues during design, testing, and production, applying root cause analysis and resolving design defects or failures.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation:
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve time-to-market.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electronic design to maintain cutting-edge skills and bring innovative solutions to the organization.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies (e.g., IoT, wireless communication, embedded systems) to enhance product offerings and improve design quality.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure designs meet all applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., CE, UL, RoHS, REACH) and industry standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE).
- Ensure that all design documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with internal and external quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of the bill of materials (BOM), schematics, PCB designs, test reports, and other design documentation.
- Cross-Department Collaboration:
- Work closely with hardware, software, firmware, and mechanical engineering teams to ensure that electronic systems meet the overall product specifications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure that designs are producible and that designs comply with the company's design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
- Assist in the preparation and execution of design reviews with internal stakeholders and external customers or regulatory bodies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electronic circuit design, PCB layout, and system-level integration.
- Proficient in electronic design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium Designer, OrCAD, LTSpice, MATLAB, PSpice).
- Strong experience with PCB design and layout software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad, Mentor Graphics).
- Expertise in analog and digital signal processing, microcontroller and FPGA programming, and embedded system design.
- Solid understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), signal integrity, power distribution, and thermal design considerations.
- Experience with high-speed, high-voltage, and mixed-signal circuit design is a plus.
- Knowledge of wireless communication technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Zigbee) and IoT systems is desirable.
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide junior engineers and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in circuit-level troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and other bench tools to diagnose and resolve complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal hardware issues.
- Proficient in reading and writing basic firmware for microcontrollers/microprocessors (e.g., ARM Cortex, PIC, AVR), including experience with C/C++ programming for hardware bring-up, peripheral configuration, and debugging via JTAG/SWD tools.
- Experience using IDEs such as STM32CubeIDE, MPLAB X, or Atmel Studio; toolchains like GCC and IAR.
- Familiarity with RTOS environments such as FreeRTOS or CMSIS-RTOS for task scheduling and peripheral management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
