The role holder will be a key member of the IT Solutions Team, contributing to the delivery of a high-quality, efficient, and user-focused Information Technology service for staff and students across the University’s Corporate, Administrative, Academic Research, and Learning & Teaching functions.
This role focuses on identifying and defining system requirements that enhance the student and staff experience. Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team of user experience designers, analysts, and developers, you will help deliver innovative and reliable corporate IT solutions aligned with the University's strategic objectives.
You will apply established analysis methodologies, tools, and standards to effectively capture business needs and translate them into clear, actionable system requirements. This includes understanding desired changes, identifying problems, and proposing solutions that support continuous improvement.
Additionally, you will contribute to the development of business cases by articulating potential benefits, evaluating solution options, and identifying associated risks. Your work will help ensure that new or improved systems and processes deliver measurable value and support the University's mission.
The post is full time and open-ended.
Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum (Grade 6)

Job Description
- Responsible for analysing user and institutional needs, designing and improving digital systems and processes, and ensuring effective delivery of technology solutions that support students, academic staff, and professional services across the university.
- Liaise with senior clients and IT staff as required, conducting investigations and subsequently producing requirements specifications and feasibility studies. You will ensure that the views of all parties are considered, verified and validated within the stakeholder community and ensure that appropriate prioritisation is applied to meet business objectives.
- Assist collaborative teams of customers to investigate and document business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using various methodical and consistent techniques.
- Plan, arrange and facilitate meetings and workshops with client/user staff during the investigative stages and throughout subsequent development work, presenting issues and solutions both orally and in writing and applying creativity to devise varied solutions to complex problems.
- Produce and deliver oral and written communications that convey complex conceptual and technical information to stakeholders with a variety of levels of understanding and backgrounds, monitoring and measuring their effectiveness.
- Define methods for research and analysis based on identified best practice and standards.
- Assist with the development of detailed specification and modelling of recommended solutions, applying analysis standards, methods and tools in an intelligent and effective way, and producing a consistently high standard of documentation from both a technical and a descriptive nature.
- Maintain technical awareness at a level where alternatives can be analysed, modelled and classified according to technical feasibility and non-functional characteristics.
- Utilise business, technical and University experience and skills to assess and advise on the practicability of alternatives, aligning technical limitations with operational realities.
- Follow appropriate design standards, working in close collaboration with the Technical Solution Architect and senior management as required, taking account of enterprise and solution architectures.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
- Work within matrix teams of staff and play a full part in the implementation of solutions for the University.
- Ensure that all tasks and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service or specific requirements of Service or Operational Level Agreements.
- Lead or participate in any projects as appropriate, managing the operation of project teams, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required. Perform other duties occasionally which are not included above, but which will be consistent with the role.

Person Specification
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly to prioritise successfully under pressure.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in problem, error and knowledge management analysis, resolution and delivery techniques
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience in Analysis and Information Capture techniques to document complex technical solutions in a logical and clear framework that can be readily understood by others.
- Excellent and proven relationship management skills with experience of managing the requirements of stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of delivering comprehensive requirements specifications for successful Business Change programmes
- Experience in systems analysis and design within a large, complex organisation-ideally in the higher education sector.
- Proven track record of working with academic and professional services stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business requirements.
- Experience supporting or implementing enterprise systems commonly used in universities (e.g. student records systems, timetabling, finance, HR, research management).
- Experience producing clear and comprehensive documentation, including functional specifications, process maps, and user guides.
- Degree level education in technology and / or business management, or qualified by experience.
- Direct University IT experience and / or other public sector experience but ideally with some non-public service sector exposure.
- Management qualification in ITIL, or similar.
- Ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.
