Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Propane Service Technician, you’ll be on the front lines ensuring propane systems are installed, serviced, and maintained to the highest safety standards. Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Installing and servicing propane tanks, regulators, and piping systems
  • Conducting leak tests, system checks, and preventive maintenance
  • Troubleshooting equipment issues and completing timely repairs
  • Delivering, setting, and connecting propane and fuel tanks and cylinders
  • Responding to customer service needs, including emergency calls
  • Educating customers on safe propane system use and maintenance
  • Maintaining accurate service records and safety documentation
  • Upholding all safety regulations, company policies, and industry codes

Reports to:

This position reports to the Senior Service Manager

Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Commitment to safety and teamwork

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training a plus
  • Experience in propane, HVAC, plumbing, or related service field preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • CETP certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
  • CDL with Hazmat B is required
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Work Environment:

Propane Technicians work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of environments, including those with heat, rain, and snow. Requires travel to customer locations, which may include residential, commercial, and agricultural properties. Physical requirements may include lifting, carrying, and bending. Technicians may work occasional overtime and on-call rotations, as dictated by seasonal or emergency requests.

Schedule:

  • Mondays through Fridays, 7:00 AM start time
  • Occasional weekends during busy season (winter)
  • Rotational on call schedule

Summary

Service Technicians (also called Tank Setters) for Crystal Flash are valued team members who are responsible for setting up customer systems by delivering and installing equipment to comply with safety standards, codes, and regulations, and customer account agreements.  Team members are expected to support the company's mission and vision by demonstrating the following values: integrity, safety and environmental protection, customer service, open communication, diversity, teamwork, and financial responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently drives commercial vehicles Monday through Friday and occasionally on weekends in all types of weather conditions
  • Perform testing and inspection functions by completing gas checks, pressure and leak tests, code inspections, and evaluating the condition of gas appliances to ensure safe and effective operation of gas systems
  • Perform duties by safely operating trenchers, transfer pump, pipe cutter, boom truck, and bobtail
  • Complete light maintenance and repairs of related equipment
  • Support the distribution process by transporting, transferring, and delivering fuels and/or related products for equipment between CF locations and customers to fulfill supply and customer agreements
  • Create and maintain positive and friendly customer relations by providing product and safety information, presenting additional products and services available, responding to customer inquiries, and generally assisting customers with their fuels and related services
  • Follows company policies and federal and state regulations
  • Keeps a safe record regarding accidents, driving record, injuries, and other actions/events, following all company safety guidelines
  • Maintains clean equipment, uniforms, and cab space, ensuring any repairs are communicated promptly
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation for the delivery of products, volume of delivery, and inventory control management
  • Appropriately used for internal systems, handheld devices, and other electronic equipment for work purposes
  • Takes direction from dispatchers and/or managers, following delivery instructions and maintaining a good working relationship
  • Communicate with team members, management, and customers in a professional and courteous manner
  • Stays calm and level-headed in stressful situations and refrains from emotional outbursts

Reports to: This position reports to the Bulk Plant Manager or SAMs Manager

Qualification Requirements:

Certificates, licenses, registrations:

Required: Valid Michigan driver’s license; CDL-A or B with Air/Tanker/Hazmat endorsements; CETP certification preferred

General Requirements, Education and/or Experience:

  • Must be at least 23 years of age or older with a Commercial Driver's License, Class B
  • Hazmat and Tanker endorsement must be obtained in order to be hired
  • CTEP certification within first year of hire if delivering/handling propane
  • At least 2 years’ previous truck driving experience
  • At least 2 years driving experience after graduating from truck driving school
  • No BACs, DUIs, DWIs or license suspensions for moving violations in the past 5 years
  • No major preventable accidents within the past year
  • No reckless driving convictions in the last 5 years in a personal or commercial vehicle
  • Able to pass a DOT physical and drug test
  • Able to work rotational 24-hour week on-call shift
  • Knowledge of driving safety rules and regulations 
  • Knowledge of mechanics and hazardous materials preferred
  • Good communication and human relation skills

Work and Physical Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to see, drive, talk and hear. The team member frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, crawl, push or pull. The team member is required to utilize manual dexterity and technical knowledge to understand and utilize basic tools, instruments, parts, couplings, manage dials and gauges, etc.

The team members must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Lifting may involve overhead work. The team members are frequently required to walk across rough terrain, around moving vehicles, and over or around obstacles.  He/she is required to pull and/or push hoses, attach couplings, turn valves and manipulate hand tools.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee performs work in a predominately solitary environment.  The primary form of communication is by telephone.
