POSITION SUMMARY: 

This is a supervisory position responsible for directing the construction, reconstruction, repair, and maintenance of City drainage systems and infrastructure. Has the daily responsibility for the preparation and execution of record keeping, reporting and scheduling; has frequent daily contact with the public requiring the exercise of tact and diplomacy; makes frequent decisions requiring sound and mature judgement. Responsible for coordinating personnel training and enforcing safety protocols. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Supervises and directs multiple assigned Drainage Crews and others as required. 

• Responsible for the planning of workloads and scheduling of assigned crews. 

• Responsible for coordinating, scheduling and performing of required training for personnel including on-the-job training. 

• Responsible for maintaining safety protocols and directing corrective actions. 

• Responsible for the evaluation and coaching of assigned personnel and recommends actions such as discipline, termination, continuation or promotion. 

• Responsible for time keeping and tracking of assigned Drainage Crews and others as required. 

• Responsible for organizing, executing and tracking assigned projects, tasks and work orders. 

• Assists in troubleshooting equipment, drainage system and infrastructure issues. 

• Responsible for the inventory of stocked shop and yard parts and materials. 

• Responsible for inventory of truck stock materials for assigned crews and others as required. 

• Responsible for recommending and assisting with the procurement of tools, equipment and materials. 

• Investigates, resolves and reports complaints received regarding the City’s drainage systems and infrastructure. 

• Assists other Public Works Divisions/City Departments when requested. 

• Familiarization with City of Schertz Code of Ordinances, as well as other drainage and drainage infrastructure standards and specification codes. 

• Assumes the duties of Drainage Supervisor in their absence. 

• Participates in on-call schedules and duties:  On-call duties during City-wide events, extenuating circumstances and emergencies (weather related or other) may be extended to all Public Works personnel. 

• Performs other job-related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: 

• High School Diploma or GED 

• Three (3) years prior drainage system construction, maintenance and repair work are required. 

• One (1) year of supervisory experience. 

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED 

• Must have a valid Class “B” Texas Commercial License, Class “A” preferred.  

• Must have a valid Non-Commercial Political Pesticide Applicator’s License.
