Summary:

As a Planning Assistant at G&T, you will play a key role in supporting the planning and delivery of construction projects across a range of sectors. Planners are integral to informing clients and Project Managers about project timescales, delivery methodologies, logistics, and risk mitigation strategies. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and the supply chain to develop and manage programmes that support successful project outcomes. Communication and stakeholder engagement are central to the role, ensuring that all parties are kept informed and aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Role Overview:

This is a graduate-level role designed to support your development into a chartered professional. Over a 2- 5-year period, you will work towards professional membership with either RICS, RTPI, or APM, depending on your experience and the nature of the projects you are working on. The appropriate pathway will be selected in collaboration with your line manager.

You will gain hands-on experience in pre-construction and construction sequencing, logistics planning, and programme evaluation. Your exposure will span the full project lifecycle—from concept design through to completion—across sectors such as commercial, residential, infrastructure, and lifestyle/culture.

Working within a collaborative team, you will assist your line manager with various aspects of daily work. You’ll be expected to work with a degree of autonomy while knowing when to seek guidance to ensure the best outcomes. This role will help you build a solid knowledge base of your responsibilities, the firm, and the wider industry—and how they all fit together.

You will also be enrolled in the G&T Chartership Programme, which supports the integration of theoretical learning with practical experience. Your training will require you to take initiative, ask questions, and contribute meaningfully to project planning and delivery.

Programme Duration:

The duration of the Planning Assistant development programme will vary depending on your academic background and the professional membership route you pursue:

  • Cognate Degree Holders (e.g., Construction Management, Planning, Engineering): Typically, 2–3 years, depending on the selected professional body (RICS, RTPI, or APM).
  • Non-Cognate Degree Holders: Typically, 3–5 years, depending on the selected professional body and the level of experience required to meet chartership criteria. The appropriate pathway and timeline will be determined in consultation with your line manager, based on your qualifications and the nature of the projects you are assigned to.
