The Manager, Broadcast and Production (Director of Television Production) serves as the second-in-command within the production team, supporting the Assistant Athletic Director, Television Production, in overseeing daily operations and supervising all employees, including full-time staff, freelancers, and student workers for the department. This position plays a key role in coordinating technical support for events and productions while ensuring consistency, safety, and quality across all services. This position will have primary responsibility as the daily liaison with ESPN/ACC Network staff to manage the look and implementation of the University of Louisville’s Live Digital and Linear Productions for the network.
The Director will work with the Assistant Athletic Director for TV Production and ESPN staff on managing the broadcast standards produced by the school for the network. This position plans and executes creative storytelling for live productions, including production meetings with staff and on-air talent for preparation and quality control for broadcasts. Additionally, the position oversees project management and completion and quality control aspects for live events as they relate to broadcasts.
The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to mentoring student staff in a hands-on learning environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Produce and direct studio and live remote broadcasts for the ACC Network, ACC Network Extra, and select ESPN platforms, as well as in-venue big screen productions.
Directly supervise TV production staff, interns, and freelance workers as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for TV Production.
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of student workers, graduate assistants, and federal work-study students involved in production-related tasks.
Schedule and assign shifts for student staff to ensure adequate coverage for events, productions, and facility operations.
Train new student staff on production equipment, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.
Train and mentor student and contract employees in various roles that include prepping elements for game, event, edit, or shoot, and executing content delivery.
Evaluate student performance, provide feedback, and support their professional development.
Ensure compliance with university policies, safety standards, and applicable labor regulations (including federal work-study requirements).
Assist with scheduling and maintaining records for freelance support staff, as well as providing opportunities to develop freelance live production staff.
Serve on a live remote production crew in other capacities on occasion beyond Producer/Director, including Camera Operator, Audio Operator, Graphics Operator, Replay Operator, and Technical Director.
Maintains the most up-to-date software and service deployments of all ACC Network Software requirements.
Script and produce feature stories and packages, including LIVE broadcast support video.
Work in conjunction with production staff and team to provide creative input on more efficient approaches to projects.
Handle pre-production work for assigned broadcast/webcast.
Oversee all institutional pass-through broadcasts for ACC Network Extra.
Department lead for Shoflo event production software.
Work closely with ESPN/ACC Network operations on executing remote and studio broadcasts.
Creative use of existing equipment to plan for multiple simultaneous telecasts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) years of experience with professional live remote production.
Two (2) years of experience with SEC and/or ACC Network Workflow.
Understanding of Evertz routing and Dante audio, as well as RTS Intercom workflows.
Knowledge of Newtek production equipment, including Tricaster and 3Play.Understanding of macros and key frames with regard to video switchers.
Experience editing on non-linear editing workstations, such as Adobe Premiere.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects).
Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
