Position Summary 

The Community Engagement Manager at the Youth Resource Center leads the site’s community engagement efforts, managing the Community Engagement team and overseeing volunteer coordination, the kitchen, and the in-kind donation room. This role serves as the primary point of contact for YRC volunteers and acts as their advocate within the program. The manager collaborates closely with YRC leadership to align engagement activities with program needs, supports donor and community partnerships, and ensures the seamless coordination of resources, staff, and volunteers in advancing VOA Utah’s mission.


Essential Duties

  

1. Team Management

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate Community Engagement Coordinators and the Kitchen Coordinator.
  • Hire and onboard new coordinators and ensure effective performance management.
  • Review and submit timesheets for assigned staff.
  • Monitor and ensure completion of required trainings and certifications for self and team.
  • Provide coverage for coordinator duties during absences to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Hold regular one-on-ones and team meetings to support communication, development, and accountability.
  • Attend Community Engagement and External Relations team meetings.

2. Program Collaboration

  • Collaborate with YRC Program Leadership to align community engagement goals with program objectives.
  • Partner with the Program Lead to coordinate the recruitment and onboarding of programming volunteers.
  • Manage onboarding and background checks for all on-site programming volunteers to ensure safety and building security.
  • Attend Site programming meetings as needed to maintain alignment.
  • Keep program staff informed of volunteer projects and ensure activities align with Program operations and client needs.

3. Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Develop and implement engagement strategies that advance VOA Utah and YRC’s mission.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with organizations, businesses, and community groups.
  • Represent the YRC at events and serve as program spokesperson.
  • Assist with tours within the Youth Resource Center when applicable and aligned with program operations.

4. Volunteer Management 

  • Recruit, train, and retain volunteers to meet site recruitment and retention goals.
  • Interact with and build relationships with volunteers to strengthen engagement and retention.
  • Oversee and support volunteer recruitment platforms and outreach to increase participation.
  • Ensure collection and maintenance of volunteer data, waivers, and compliance documentation.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and community involvement.

5. Kitchen Management

  • Supervise the Kitchen Coordinator and ensure compliance with health department regulations.
  • Oversee kitchen operations, including budget, purchasing, and inventory management.
  • Collect, manage, and maintain records of food-handling permits for staff utilizing the kitchen.

6. Donation Room Management

  • Manage the in-kind donation program and oversee organization of the donation room.
  • Support marketing and outreach related to in-kind donation needs and drives.
  • Collect and audit donation receipts to ensure program accuracy and alignment with agency goals.
  • Monitor inventory and distribution of donated items to ensure appropriate use and tracking.
  • Assist with donation deliveries and redistribution to other VOA Utah programs as needed.

7. Donor Relations 

  • Support donor engagement by documenting and tracking partner and donor interactions on the partner tracking sheet.
  • Solicit financial and in-kind contributions to support VOA Utah programs.
  • Collaborate with the Community Engagement Team to align resource development efforts with agency-wide goals.


Secondary Duties

  • Support volunteer appreciation initiatives and events.
  • Assist the External Relations Team with donor events and initiatives.
  • Coordinate flexible scheduling for the Community Engagement team around community events, External Relations needs, and recognized holidays.
  • Be available for evening and weekend work as needed. 
  • Perform other functions as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required and 2 years of social services or homelessness-related experience or any combination of education, experience, and training which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, with 1-2 years of non-profit or volunteer management experience.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including volunteers, donors, and community partners.
  • Ability to uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality regulations, agency policies and procedures, and interact in a professional manner with a diverse workforce, clients, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of private information. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and direction.
  • Driving required: must be at least 21 years of age, possess a current driver’s license, have a good driving record, and be insurable on the agency liability policy. 
  • Must be able to pass Utah-DHHS – Office of Licensing background screening and pre-employment drug screen. 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. 
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods while performing duties on-site.
  • The Job may entail using a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional travel to community events, meetings, or partner organizations, which may require driving.
