TITLE:                                    Elementary Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS: Licensure in elementary education required. HIGHLY QUALIFIED status in elementary education required. Previous experience as an elementary school teacher preferred, with specific background/expertise in teaching ELA/literacy.

SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement

REPORTS TO:                       The school principal or his/her designee

JOB GOAL:                            To provide all students with the help, counsel, and learning experience they need to make progress toward educational goals established. To create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activities.
Participates in curriculum development programs as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
Instructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.

Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.

Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates these objectives to pupils.
Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation tools
Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interprets the school program.
Collaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupils.
May serve as a class size reduction teacher in the area of ELA/literacy for multiple grade levels during the 2020-21 school year.
Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year. Salary in accordance with certification and placement on the adopted schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board of Education policy on the evaluation of teachers.
