POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Professional Tutors in the Glenn Hubert Student Learning Center play a vital role in promoting academic achievement, student confidence, and overall retention. They are tasked with utilizing a holistic, student-centered approach to tutoring, guiding students through academic challenges while cultivating independent learning skills. Our tutors ensure that every student they work with is equipped with the strategies and tools to navigate coursework confidently, strengthen academic performance, and are positioned for long-term academic success.



CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitate individual and group tutoring sessions across various academic subjects, with a focus on English composition and application of academic concepts.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Reinforce effective learning strategies.
  • Utilize creative and evidence-based tutoring techniques and academic support tools to promote engagement and improve student performance.
  • Incorporate interactive approaches to make learning engaging and enjoyable.
  • Cultivate a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to develop critical thinking, academic writing, and communication skills.
  • Promote tutoring services by representing the center at campus events.
  • Create and maintain a consistent tutoring schedule.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions.
  • Complete tutor training and participate in professional development.
  • Model academic integrity and set appropriate boundaries with students.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Direct supervision will be conducted by the Director of Academic Enhancement, with additional day-to-day oversight received from the Tutoring Coordinator.

 

Qualifications


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, English Education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Three years of tutoring or relevant experience at the collegial level
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse student populations and varying levels of academic preparedness.
  • Proficient in using digital platforms and educational software programs such as Canva, Microsoft Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to integrate technology into tutoring sessions utilizing interactive tools, online platforms, and digital resources.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching in either K-12 or college level
