Who we are:
EOI Space is developing and deploying a network of satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to provide ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery. We aim to deliver timely and actionable data for commercial and defense applications.
We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts. This demands an ambitious team that thrives on challenges, takes ownership, and collaborates deeply. EOI Space is looking for an Sr FPGA Engineer with deep expertise in controls, communications systems, and embedded systems.
What you will do:
This role will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of FPGA solutions in various satellite subsystems. This role will work across the program lifecycle, from early design of subsystems to final verification and delivery to higher levels of assembly and test within the satellite. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background as well as the ability to collaborate and thrive within a cross-functional, fast-paced environment. Your work will directly contribute to delivering high-quality Earth imagery from space.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for aerospace applications, with a focus on control systems, communication protocols, power systems, and embedded system design
Develop VHDL/Verilog code and optimize it for resource utilization, performance, and reliability within the constraints of aerospace systems
Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to define FPGA requirements and ensure system integration
Develop and test FPGA firmware, including simulation, synthesis, and implementation, ensuring compliance with safety-critical and reliability standards
Perform debugging and troubleshooting of complex FPGA designs using appropriate debugging tools and methodologies
Work with cross-functional teams to define, document, and validate system specifications and requirements
Ensure that all development work adheres to industry standards and regulatory guidelines (e.g., DO-254, DO-178)
Participate in system-level design reviews, design verification, and acceptance testing
Mentor junior FPGA engineers, providing technical leadership and guidance to the team
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best practices for FPGA design and development processes
Provide expertise in embedded systems design and communication protocols for aerospace applications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred
Minimum of 10 years of experience in FPGA design and development, with a focus on aerospace, control systems, communication systems, and embedded systems; direct experience with satellite subsystems is preferred
Proficiency in VHDL and/or Verilog for FPGA development
Extensive experience with FPGA development tools (e.g., Microchip Libero, Xilinx Vivado, Altera Quartus, ModelSim, etc.)
Strong knowledge of aerospace system design, including embedded control systems and communication protocols (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, SpaceWire)
Experience with FPGA-based system integration in safety-critical environments (e.g., DO-254, DO-178)
Familiarity with digital signal processing (DSP) techniques and high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet)
Expertise in debugging, simulation, and verification of FPGA designs
Strong knowledge of embedded system architectures and microcontrollers
Proven track record of developing high-reliability systems for aerospace, defense, or similar industries
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $145,000-$195,000 per year, depending on previous experience. Pay ranges are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and internal equity.
